Replica hangs with less than 1 minute to go and never finishes...

Thread needs solution

I set up a backup to my local USB drive, which completed fairly fast (2 hours).  Then I tried to put a replica into the Acronis Cloud.  But I could never get it to complete, and also the delete replica and delete backup and replica are grayed out, so I can't get rid of it all and start over.  Please advise what may be wrong...

Donald, welcome to these public User Forums.

Please download the MVP Log Viewer tool (link in my signature below) and use this to review the log file for your backup operation. This should provide more information on what is happening with the replica task.

What is the size of your backup file on your USB drive and what type of USB connection is being used here, i.e. USB 2 (slower) or USB 3 (faster)?
What upload speed to you have for your internet connection?

The log for the replica job says:

8/31/2019 10:07:08 AM: -----
8/31/2019 10:07:08 AM: ATI Demon started. Version: 24.3.1.20770.
8/31/2019 10:07:08 AM: Operation C + D Drives to I-replica started by schedule.
8/31/2019 10:07:08 AM: Operation: Replication
8/31/2019 10:07:11 AM: Priority changed to Low.

Start: 8/31/2019 10:07:08 AM
Stop: 8/31/2019 10:07:11 AM
Total Time: 00:00:03

My experience here was ATI appeared to run for maybe a half hour, the little progress gauge slowly counted down until it said less than 1 minute, which is where it still is after a day's time.

The backup to USB was successful, file size is 338 GB.  The drive is USB 2.0 (I think).  I am on a cable modem connection that uploads 6-7 mbps.

Donald, given your backup file size (338GB) on a slow USB 2 drive and cable modem upload speed of only 7mbps, that replica is going to take days to complete!  I am basing this on my own uploads to the Acronis Cloud of much smaller backups directly from my laptop over my own cable modem broadband connection with a similar upload speed.

Yes the replication to the Cloud will take several days, could be up to 5 or 6 days going by my experience when I had 100/5 Mbps cable connection (now 95/35).

Yes but the log seems to show that the job was over in 3 seconds.  Please help me understand...

Donald, sorry but there is no way that any Cloud backup task would ever complete in a matter of seconds unless you were only backing up a few KB of data.

The log you posted only showed the task starting but did not show it completing!  If you compare that log with any of your local backup task logs, you will see the difference.

I'm sure you are correct.  Before I figured out about replication, I just did a regular backup to the acronis cloud.  That did take about a week to complete.  But I realized that I was thinking backwards about how acronis works (due to experience with another cloud backup service which shall go nameless).  So I deleted the full backup to cloud, and did the full backup to my external drive.  This was successful, so I then ran the cloud replication routine on that local backup.

The replication job ran 3 seconds but did not complete.  Log says that:

Start: 8/31/2019 10:07:08 AM
Stop: 8/31/2019 10:07:11 AM
Total Time: 00:00:03

However, there is no error message, my acronis here seems to think it is still running and continues to wait for the server to respond.  It says it is calculating the time remaining, which never completes either.  I can't delete the replica and restart it. It also indicates my full 1TB of space is available on the server.

I'd appreciate any ideas about this that people may have.  My current thinking is to uninstall and reinstall acronis to start fresh.  Are there any reasons that wouldn't work?

Thank you.

You could try a Repair installation; download the latest build from you Acronis Account, then Run as Administrator, then select Repair rather than Uninstall. It has been know to correct many issues.

Donald, the log is normal for a task that has started but not completed or ended because of an error etc.  Replication is designed to run as a background task and allow other normal Acronis backup tasks to continue to run and not cause them to be queued as happens when making a normal (non replica) backup to the Cloud.

If your replica has been running since August 31st, then I would hope that it is making good progress with the upload to the cloud - the pity here is that you cannot see how far it has got!

OK, that is reassuring.  I guess I need to keep the faith a bit longer.  It is odd that some sort of indication about progress of my replica isn't available.  Seems like that would be an obvious feature that would be provided/useful.  Thank you again...

Wondering if the issue was related to the backup being on USB drive I created a backup of my system NVMe drive to a 6 TB Lacie USB drive (the backup took 11 minutes and 14 second and subsequent validation took about 15 minutes), I then started a replicate and it completed about 6 and a half hours later (the amount backed up is reported as 77.9 GB and data to recover 122.1 GB - backup was created with max compression). The estimated time for the replication was (for ATI) relatively accurate - I think it initially was about 5 and a half hours.

So I was unable to replicate the problem, but I suspect it may be more likely to occur if the upload speed is low - my max upload is about 35 Mbps.

So, no further forward.
