Restore to new laptop
Need advice:
Problem -- 6 year old HP laptop display went out, so I acquired a new ASUS laptop.
In the past I have had to restore ATI images to new disks, replacing bad disks of the same size in the same PC from which the backup image was created. This time, the new ASUS has larger disk, newer and different hardware, Win-10 plus a bunch of unwanted junk installed, etc. First time to encounter the "larger dist - different hardware" situation!
I have the MVP WINPE tool built on a USB drive, built from ATI2020, and of course it has universal restore included, which as I said above, have never had need to use.
I have a very recent disk image from the old laptop, but not the disk. Question is: how to proceed?
1) Erase the new PC's disk cleanly and a simple "restore" of the Image?
2) Just do Files and Folders copy from the image tibx file?
3) Go through all (many!) applications and run all "install" files I can find?
Option 1 would seem to produce the most desired results (programs, data, configurations, etc) as existed on the old laptop. However, the larger disk and different hardware in the new PC may not allow for that! It also has the greatest risk of "no turning back".
Must I now study up on the universal restore function?
Thanks for any advice !!.
Robert

Ian, thanks for the reply.
Sorry for the incomplete information.
Both the old and new laptops are on Windows 10 Home, v.1809, activated.
Old one had Build 17763.418, New one has Build 17763.805.
Hope that helps.
Robert
Note: I somehow got this in the wrong place!! Don't know if it can be transfered, or if it matters! I intended to post in the ATI2020 forum.

Robert, for some reason when creating a new thread it can end up here; it is a forum bug they are working on.
As both are running Windows 10 (although different builds) the process should be relatively simple. Windows 10 has much better device support than earlier versions, so you may be able to do a restore to the new Notebook without any problems - you probably will not need to worry about Universal restore.
The only possible problem could be with vendor specific hardware such as the touchpad. However you can use a mouse instead until you get the necessary drivers from ASUS.
