Restored file and folders are locked.

Thread needs solution

I recently re-installed Windows 10 on my computer.  After I did this I used Acronis to restore the "My Documents" folder and it's contents.

The files and folders were restored; however, now, when I open a file, I get a message that I do not have permission  to open or look at the files.  I have attached two screenshots to better explain.

Any suggestions on how to correct this problem and restore with full access to my files?

Thank you,

Rich

Hello Richard,

when recovering files onto the new OS you can deselect the option "Recover files with their original security settingshttps://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2020/index.html#8420.html

Thank you!

Richard,

If the restore is already complete and you don't have access, you need to use the Windows security settings to take ownership of the folder/files and give yourself permissions to them now.

First take ownership.  You can do this from the root of your "my documents" folder.  You probably are already the owner, but you need to replicate this to the newly recovered files since it sounds like you restored them with the original permissions.

Then go in and replicate the permissions again.
