Restoring backup to new computer with new operating system

Thread needs solution

The computer that I used to create my backup had Windows 7, and it recently died.  I just purchased a computer with Windows 10 and want to restore all of my backup but Windows 7.  Is there a way to do this?

Jane, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry but you cannot just exclude Windows 7 if doing any disk level recovery to a new system.

Please see KB 19296: Acronis products cannot be used to transfer applications to different system or upgrade OS

What you can do is recover all your user data such as documents, pictures, music, videos etc to the new computer but you would need to reinstall any applications / programs on your new Windows 10 system, ensuring that you have the correct Windows 10 version of the same if necessary.

See KB 63240: Acronis True Image 2020: how to restore files from a backup (Windows) - and scroll down the document to the section showing how to open .tibx or .tib files in Explorer by double-clicking on the files.

Note: the above KB document assumes that you have installed ATI 2020 on the new Win 10 system.
