Run backup only on shutdown and not on restart

Thread needs solution

Hi

I currently have setup the schedule to start the backup "Upon event: System shutdown or restart". Now, if I have to restart my computer for various reasons and plan to keep using it after the restart, I first have to wait for the backup to be completed, which is quite annoying.

Is there any possibility to have the backup run only on an actual shutdown and not on a restart?

Thanks a lot!

Timothy, welcome to these public User Forums.

By definition a restart is doing a shutdown followed immediately by a start up again, so I don't see how you can get Acronis to differentiate between the two.

See webpage: Windows: Shutdown/Reboot Event IDs – Get Logs  which may help show you if there are different event ID's you could use with the Windows Task Scheduler to run your backup via that method only on shutdown?

I looked into this a while ago.

In the Event Viewer, select Windows Logs/System. Look for event 1074 from User32. In this event, param5 will be either "shutdown" or "restart".

You could set up a task on this event and it could do something that you could then check on a pre-command to determine whether or not to actually run the backup.
