Running multiple ATI tasks

Thread needs solution

Greetings..

I understand that True Image has issues with, and does not allow more than one backup task to run at a time, and indeed the GUI does not allow starting a second task while one is running.

I have 4 B/U tasks that I wish to run weekly, or at times start manually, and run unattended during the night.

I remember years ago I did this with a process which called a true image b/u task, then when that one completed called the next task, then the next, etc. It’s possible I did that through windows task scheduler, calling batch files or rexx files in sequence. My trouble now is, I can’t find anywhere the parameters of the actual STATEMENT that calls a true image task!

Perhaps someone can refresh my FAILING MEMORY on that!!

Thanks much…Robert Vaughan

Robert, whilst Acronis will only allow one backup task to be active / running at any one time, you can schedule multiple tasks to run at say 5 minute intervals and Acronis will start the first task and will queue each subsequent task to run after the previous one has completed.

If you have enabled 'Allow wake timers' for your power options, then the scheduled task will still run when the computer has been sleeping or in hibernation.

This is coupled with other settings for each backup task in the ATI GUI on the Schedule page:

As shown above, the option to wake the computer is selected, along with that to stop the computer dozing off while the backup is running!

The above approach is the easiest / simplest to use as doesn't require any additional scripting provided that the destination location / drive will be available to write to when / as required.

If you still want to look at launching your ATI backup tasks outside of the ATI GUI & Scheduler, then this is still possible but is a little more complicated, especially since the release of ATI 2020 which changed the way this process used to work in earlier versions, plus also introduced the Acronis Active Protection feature that has to be considered if doing anything that would want to copy, move or delete any backup .tib or .tibx files.

KB 54944: Acronis True Image: How to Create a Shortcut for a Backup Task shows how to do this for the Windows version of ATI which can then be included in a batch script.

See the attached zip file containing a Powershell script for launching a backup task along with additional processing needed.

Steve, Your reference to KB 54944 was exactly what I was looking for!! I'm not sure why my searching didn't land me there. My poor choice of search words, I guess!

I was away a few days, so only today able to test that, and respond to you.

Thanks again for your help with this,  as well as with other issues. You are a valuable asset!!!
