Step by step guide to connect the WD My cloud Home in order to use it for backup destination

Thread needs solution

Good morning

as the title says, i have a WD my cloud HOME 4 TB, i want to use it for back up of my pc, but the drive won't show up in the list of available destinations.

I must clarify that the drive is correctly miunted under the network drives in windows explorer (under the letter Z) and is functioning normally.

How can i make it appear inside ATI 2020?

thank you for the help

Antonella, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry but I cannot give you a step by step guide per your topic subject as I do not have access to the same type of network drive you are using.

The normal process to access network drives in ATI 2020 if they do not show automatically the NAS option on the first Backup destination panel, is to select the Browse option and check again under 'My NAS connections' - if it still is not shown, then type in the network address for the NAS in the top text entry field using the format: \\WD_MyCloudHome\ or else using the IP address of the NAS \\192.168.0.33 then press Enter to trigger the Credentials entry panel to be shown for the connection.

Antonella,

Since your mapped drive Z:\ shows in File Explorer you should see that same folder destination in True Image under This PC.  It will not appear under Network or NAS because it is seen as a lettered drive on your network.

Actually, it may not show even if it is not mapped.  I have 3 NAS drive, only one of which is mapped.   None of them show under "My MAS connections", but ATI can reach the 2 unmapped drives by the full UNC path.

Hi,

I know this is an old post, but what username and password do you use in the Authentications Settings. I have tried my Windows Log-on UN & PW and my WD UN & PW, but it won't accept either.

This is frustrating the absolute s*#it out of me. Why did they have to make this so hard!

Scott, welcome to these public User Forums.

Any password credentials requested for a connection to a NAS or other remote storage device is that for an account created on that NAS or device.

I would strongly recommend NOT creating any accounts on the NAS etc that use the same credentials as your Windows PC's because you are opening them wide to potential malware or ransomware attack if the PC is compromised!

Most NAS devices can have multiple accounts that are used for different shared folders etc.

My older WD MyBookLive storage device has an 'admin' account that I can use with ATI but my Synology NAS has a named user account that is unique to that NAS that I use.

Thanks Steve

When you set up a My Cloud Home, it does not invite you to set up a username and password for it, other than what is created for the WD account (email/PW). I've scoured the internet to find out what the defaults are and no one has been correct. I have tried so may options my fingers are sore from typing...

The device is meant to be for home users, not IT networking professionals, it is really poorly designed for someone who just wants to backup their PC. I put some blame on Acronis to as they have not produced user friendly (idiot proof) instructions either.

I am just searching for a newer answer to this problem and haven't found any.

But there is a possibility on how to backup your computer to MyClude Home, but it's not perfect.

When you connect your MyCloud Home to the network, there is a name on the network of the drive.

This name is different from other names in Explorer or even network drive that is created by WD Discovery program.

Unfortunatelly this is only visible on the local network. This folder is not visible from the mobile app, it is not visible from the web, but only locally with the name. This is public folder and can be used with Acronis. I've been using it for few years, backups are fine, but again, only visible with the name. So if you want to access this folder to copy or do something with backups you have to manually enter this name in the explorer to access the public folder. Again, it wont be seenable in standard assigned drive from WD Discovery.

So... this is not it!!! This is WD Discovery mapped drive!

So maybe this will help. I bought MyCloud Home by mistake thinking that MyCloud Home and MyCloud are the same product. MyCloud Home is a great and simple solution for many things accessible from anywhere, but using it for more professional things is not one of them. I wouldn't buy another again just for this reason of accessibility on the network and some other annoying things that are unimportant on this forum :)
