Survival Kit Using WD My Passport 2 TB USB Drive

Thread needs solution

ATI 2020 does not seem to recognize my WD Passport as being a removable drive and does not give me the "Create a Survival Kit" option. I have read many articles on this and other forums, but have to admit to being very confused about whether it is possible or not to use Passport with Acronis.

While AT! 2020 did not give the survival kit creation option, I went ahead and let it do a full backup of my computer. When I look at the Passport using Windows 10 Disk Manager it shows two partitions - the first is named "ACRONIS HM" and is a 2 GB FAT partition. Does this mean that ATI 2020 actually did create a survival kit?

I have successfully (apparently at least) created a USB thumb drive rescue drive using the "Rescue Media Builder" icon in the Tools menu of ATI. However, I would really like to find a way of making the full Survival Kit on my Passport drive.

Appreciate any help/suggestions. Thanks in advance.

PS - system is Windows 10 Pro 1909 with up to date updates on a Dell i9-9900K with 32 GB.

Tom, welcome to these public User Forums.

The 2GB Acronis HM FAT32 partition is how the Survival Kit normally shows on a drive, so it does sound as if one has been created.

The best way to test this is to try booting from it.

On my Windows 10 system, I am able to hold a Shift key when clicking on Restart, then take the option to 'Use a device' from the Windows 10 recovery menu to boot from my USB drive.

Note: check that you choose the correct boot method, i.e. UEFI or Legacy to match how your computer boots.
