There are now 3 startup processes and a new tray app. How do we manage them?

Thread solved

We now have 3 startup processes:

And a new tray Icon that opens a new window showing a quick view of backups:

This is bordering on bloat. I don't need a memory resident tray app to show me the backups, I open the main app for that.

How do we disable most of this and just leave the backup scheduler (Presumably Acronis Scheduler Service Helper)?

How do we remove this tray app.

I don't see any options for this (Yes active protection is off)

To add to this the Active Protection Service is still running when it's turned off:

Please give us more control over this as it's going overboard. I *JUST* want the scheduler for backups.

Thanks.

John, please see KB 63256: Acronis True Image 2020: Windows services and processes - which shows the purpose for each of these components and therefore should allow users to decide which they want to disable (Services).

The tray app is a replacement for the AAP icon that was present in ATI 2018 & 2019.

Thanks for the list, but how do I disable them.

For example:

  1. "Acronis Active Protection (TM) Service" is still running even though it's turned off.
  2. How do I turn off the tray app?
  3. How do i turn off the "Acronis Nonstop Backup Service" service as I'm not using that.
  4. How do i turn off "Acronis TIB Mounter Monitor" as I don't use that?
  5. Why is "Acronis True Image 2020" running when I'm not even using the app and how do I disable that.
  6. How do I disable "True Image 2020 notifier" as I don't use email notifications.
  7. What does "Acronis Sync Agent Service" do.. "Performs Synchronization" isn't helpful.

There's quite a few processes that I never use and some that should not be floating in memory when they are not being used.

John, lets deal with AAP first.

In the ATI 2020 User Guide it has the following statement:

You can turn Acronis Active Protection on or off in Acronis True Image only. You cannot stop the process manually through Task Manager or any other external tool.

If you open the main ATI 2020 GUI and change to the AAP page, then use the option shown to turn AAP off, this in turn will turn off the AAP Service that normally runs in the background.

The images confirm that turning off AAP in the ATI GUI stops & disables the AAP service.

Next, in Windows Task Manager, click on the Services link at the bottom to open the Services control panel and sort by the Description column.

Here you can right-click on any of the Acronis Services to open their Properties page.  For those Services you do not use, change the Startup type to Disabled, then click on the Stop option.
Note: It is important that the Services are stopped first as otherwise if you try to end any active Acronis processes shown in Task Manager, the background service will automatically restart that process!

Repeat the above for any Services except for the Acronis Scheduler2 Service which should be left active as is required for any backup activities.

As mentioned in my post, turning off AAP in the app does not stop the service:

Even worse, I'm unable to manually stop the service as the button is grayed out, even when Services app is run as administrator. I assume this is a bug? ATI 2020, Build 20770

I'm also unable to find any services that corresponds with the following that I mentioned above:

  1. Acronis TIB Mounter Monitor
  2. Acronis True Image 2020
  3. True Image 2020 notifier
  4. Acronis Sync Agent Service
  5. The tray icon.

More importantly, why is there no way to achieve this all in the GUI?

John, as I posted with my earlier screen images, turning off AAP in the main ATI GUI does stop & disable the associated AAP Service on my computer, so I would expect that it should do the same for you.

If not, then I would recommend doing a Repair install to start with - this is actioned by re-installing ATI 2020 over the top of the current application without uninstalling first.  This should be done from an Administrator account to ensure the correct permissions are given.

The Acronis TIB Mounter Monitor, notifier and tray icon are all background processes which should not consume any CPU unless ATI is actively being used.

The Sync Agent service is shown in the Services control panel of my earlier screen image and can be set to Disabled start as per the update above.

When you see Acronis True Image 2020 - you should right-click on this in Task Manager and then on 'Open file location' to see which specific process it refers to.  Doing this on my computer brings me to the TrueImageMonitor.exe application.

To add to Steve's input...

From Task Manager, go to the Start-up tab. There you will find the three things that are started up at boot. These can be disabled/enabled at will.

As for the services, I usually set them to Manual or Disabled as desired but don't change the running state.

After changing the services and the start-up, I reboot. This gets everything synced well.

Yep it's definitely not working for me as per my screenshot. I might try a re-install as you've suggested.

The Acronis TIB Mounter Monitor, notifier and tray icon are all background processes which should not consume any CPU unless ATI is actively being used.

I'd prefer them not to be resident in memory at all if they are not currently processing anything.

Ah yes I missed it the first time, thanks.

Yes same here. From you link, TrueImageMonitor.exe seems to be the tray process for notifications. Disabling True Image 2020 as a startup task removed this.

Thanks for your help. I got there in the end.

Yes I've disabled TIB Mounter Monitor and True Image 2020 (it's the try icon) thanks.
