TI 2020 Full Backup not Incremental

Thread needs solution

I have always been uncertain about incremental backups and given the low cost today of fast disc space have always used full and discrete entire disk backups and would do that weekly keeping the last 4 or 5. Now with the 2020 current foibles on incremental I certainly will continue that practice.

My question is: Does a full and complete disk and partition backup in 2020 act as a standalone backup or does it have some reference back to the original? I suppose another way to ask that is: Can I use windows explorer to delete my older backup and then go to TI 2020 and do another Full Backup without it being diminished due to not being able to find the older backup.

Clearly I do not trust 2020, but I suppose I didn't trust 2011, 2013, 2015 or 2018 either as this has been my belt and suspenders methodology since the beginning.

Another question. If I only want to restore the odd file or two is it a detriment to have only a Disk and Partition backup rather than a files and folders backup? I know I am wanting TI to do things simply and in a straightforward way and I am not certain that it can work that way.

No!  If the same backup task in the ATI GUI makes multiple Full backups, then these are now interdependent in ATI 2020 and you should not start deleting unwanted files using Explorer!

See forum topic: Full Backups no independent entity - where the core issue here was discussed previously.  There is a zipped powershell script here in that topic which moves full backup files to another location to help keep them completely independent of each other.

There should be very little difference between either type of backup when it comes to being able to recover the odd file or two.  Obviously, the larger the backup file, the slightly longer it will take to open and navigate if compared to having a backup of just a few folders etc.
