TIBX??
I have seen mention in this forum of a new .TIBX file format for TI2020.
I upgraded from TI2019 to TI2020 today. Right after the update was complete I ran a full backup. The backup file still has a .TIB extension. Is there something I have to do to enable .TIBX and any of its new featres?
Thanks.
Peter

IanL-S: Thanks for the reply. I did a new, full backup of my C: drive. Not incremental. The backup was saved on my local D: drive. I got a .tib file (as with previous versions).

Peter, was this backup set up as a Disk/Partition backup or Files and Folders? The disk/partition backups use .tibx but files and folders use .tib.

BrunoC: It was set up as Back up the entire C: drive

This is what I have discovered so far (to answer my original question):
When I updated from TI2019 to TI2020 it carried over the various backup profiles I had originally created in TI2019. I ran one of the profiles (Back up now) and, as I previously mentioned, it created a .TIB file.
I then deleted my backup profiles and re-created them in TI2020 with the exact same settings. I ran one of the newly created profiles and it created a .TIBX file.
So it appears that any profiles carried over from TI2019 (or earlier versions) will create TIB and any profile newly created in TI2020 will create TIBX.
Again, I'm doing Full backups of the entire C: drive to the local D: drive. I have it set to verify the file right after it's created.
The TIBX files are definitely smaller. The TI2020 backup process is indeed faster than previous versions but the amount of time it takes to verify a backup is noticeably longer. So the entire process is about the same amount of time.

Peter, sounds right about the .tib and .tibx files you see.
I can't speak for the backup time, but the validation for .tibx files can be long and it also seems to validate all the chains. Keep a watch on it. You may want to run the validation less frequently.

Yes. An existing task from a previous version of ATI will continue creating .tib files. If you want to create .tibx files you have to create a new backup task. At this point it's difficult to know whether creating a new task and starting a new chain of backups is worth the effort. (Not that there's much effort involved.)

Am I correct in assuming that TI2020 can restore a drive from either a newer TIBX file or from an older TIB file?

Yes, correct. Only TI2020 can restore from .tibx files, not older versions of ATI.

I cannot say for certain mind you, but there have been a lot of complaints about the verification process being nothing more than a checksum comparison which does nothing in terms of corruption.
It appears to me that the verification tool is now performing a much more thorough check of the created backup so I would assume that file integrity and possibly MFT are being checked making the tool run slower and do more but in turn be a much better indicator of a backup being reliable upon restoration.

That would be very good news. Too bad I don't have a corrupted backup with which to check this out. :)

Yes it would and I concur with a corrupt backup but then how would you know it to be corrupt in the first place? A sort of catch 22 right?

Hi all,
I removed the older 2019 version and installed 2020 NOT AN UPGRADE.
The interface only shows new.TIBX and not older backups in .TIB .Same thing with restore from USB. I think a patch needs to be created so we can see all versions with clean install of 2020 and restore any backup.
Any ideas how to fix the issue ?
Thanks

Zardoc, what build version of ATI 2020 have you installed?
The issue of not showing both .tib & .tibx files, particularly with the rescue media, was fixed in the latest builds including both 21400 and 22510.

Hi Steve,
I have 22510. They only showed up when I imported settings from 2019. I haven't tried a restore yet. I'll let you know.
OK, I'm using the MVP version. Both types show up.
They should check to see why .TIB don't show up by default with update. They only showed up when I imported old settings. Maybe I should have done a reboot. Update should maybe force a reboot.
Thanks Steve
