TIBX files restore disk errors

Thread needs solution

I'm having a problem restoring a backup to my main PC. Apparently, the last incremental backup contained significant disk errors - so many that correcting them made the OS unbootable. Going to True Image 2020:

1. I couldn't restore at all from either bootable media or Startup Recovery Manager. When it came to the point at which I had to choose a backup date, no matter which I selected, the Next button was grayed out, so I could not continue.

2. I did a bare reinstall of Windows after formatting the drive, installed TI 2020 and was able to restore from within Windows, BUT, no matter which version I chose, the drive had errors after restoring which brought me back full circle - after repairing, the drive was not bootable.

I suspect that the TIBX file method isn't keeping truly discreet increments and instead is folding the drive errors into ALL previous backups. If I'm right, this system is a disaster. Yes, I will henceforth either use the differential method or just toss 2020 in the dustbin as an error in judgement. My rusty old version 2018 never had this problem. I could choose whichever file I wanted to install from then.

I would suggest that Acronis allow users to choose whether to use TIB or TIBX for incremental backups in future versions of True Image.

Recovering an at an earlier point of time can correct some errors, but not all errors. It can fix file system errors (which can also be fixed by running CHKDSK. However, it will not overcome physical errors with the disk drive. There is a real possibility that the disk is seriously damaged/failing. I would run the manufacturer's disk utility - it may be best to use a standalone version rather than one the runs via windows. Some manufactures have different utility for SSD and HDDs.
