Tranfer operation system from PC to a Surface

Thread needs solution

Hello,

due to a failure of my Surface Pro 3 the Microsoft support adviced me to reset the Surface. - It did not hepl.

Thus I lost all the installed apps. Beeing in chat contact with the support I missed to make a backup.

I have a backup of my pc, with even more of my used apps. Is there a chance to transfer the whole opperation system to the surface? Or even better only a choice of apps, because of the limited space on the surface?

That would save a lot of work ...

Thank you for suggestions.

Karsten,

Please see KB 19296: Acronis products cannot be used to transfer applications to different system or upgrade OS

Potentially you could attempt to transfer a full disk backup from your PC to your Surface Pro 3 but whether this will be successful or not is a different question!

There are a lot of other considerations around migrating Windows installations between different hardware including application / OS activation, device driver support, BIOS boot mode etc.

If the PC hardware is significantly different to that in the Surface, then I would suggest making a clean start and reinstall your key apps you want to have on that device.
