True Image 2020 - Sometimes a tractor should remain a tractor
I've been an ATI 2016 user since...well 2016 on my Windows laptop(s). My Windows 10 OS is on its own single partition 256GB SSD. All my data is on a 1TB hard-drive. I do not use the Windows default storage libraries like Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos. I keep this type of data on my hard-drive....not redirected nor softlinked and backup it up with a backup product. I backup and restore the OS drive from a bootable USB with the ATI image stored on the 1TB hard-drive. I do not use or have the ATI program installed on Windows. I am in the habit of doing a backup image prior to program installs and Windows updates. Microsoft has BSOD'd me more than once!
I retired recently (ex-farm boy turned IT software developer) and decided to give Apple OSX programming a shot. I bought a Mac Mini and dove into Xcode and Swift. I felt that I wanted to be able to image my Mac Mini for macOS recovery purposes. On the Mini, I store all my data in iCloud. So, I decided to upgrade my ATI from 2016 to 2020 to ensure that I had macOS functionality.
What a major disappointment! Using the bootable USB, ATI 2016 would backup my C: drive, encrypt, "High" compress, and validate the image in less than 8 minutes. Using the ATI 2020 bootable USB, the backup of C: without encryption, without compression, and without image validation takes over 25 minutes! I had hoped that the 2020 version would be faster, sleeker, and more polished. Not so.
I don't claim to be privy to Acronis's TI development 'vision'. I assume that they are trying to expand their customer base by adding functionality. But sometimes, a tractor should remain a tractor. Trying to have it fulfill the roll of grader, end loader, bulldozer, backhoe, etc; ruins the tractor functionality. ATI used to be the best tractor around, not so much now. (sorry for my farm boy roots metaphor)
I'm going to have to look elsewhere for software to fulfill my admittedly small scoped imaging needs.
(I'm not looking for any feedback nor "solutions", I just had to vent my disappointment.)
