True Image 2020 Validation Time

Thread needs solution

Now that I’ve been using True Image 2020 for a few weeks I’ve noticed that the amount of time it takes to validate a backup is 2 - 3 times longer than the amount of time it took to create the backup. Why is that? Also, when TI2020 is going through the validating phase it counts down the time remaining. It displays “less than 1 minute” for about 3 minutes. Why is that? Thanks. Peter

It displays “less than 1 minute” for about 3 minutes.

There has been grumbling since early in the ATI 2020 Beta test about the inaccuracy of ATI time estimates in general and about “less than 1 minute” in particular.  (Actually, there has been grumbling for years but the problem seems to be worse in AT2020.)

However, validation in .tibx backups actually performs a lot more checks than it did in the old format.  Having it take 2 - 3 times as long as the backup seems a bit excessive, though.  And that doesn't explain the “less than 1 minute” problem.

I've had ATI display “less than 1 minute” for well over an hour. This was a Files and Folders recovery, and I confirmed that files and folders had all been recovered by the time “less than 1 minute” was shown.  I assume ATI had a lot of cleanup to do and had no reasonable way of estimating how much time the cleanup would take.

Some of this is possible due to the "growing pains" Acronis is having implementing it's "new" backup format into ATI, but not in the case of a Files and Folders recovery.

What kind of backup were you doing?  How long did the backup take?

Yeah validation will double with each full chain now as 2020 validates all chains in the backup instead of just the current one.  I don't believe this is working as intended (as it does not behave this way in Acronis Backup 12.5 with .tibx) so am hoping it gets resolved.  In another thread, the moderator said it was confirmed to be working as intended, so there is some back and forth there that has not been resolved - best we know, as of this iteration, the validation will take longer because of this new behavior.

The calculating time is all over the place - not just validating, but also during backup and recovery. I've done many tests this past week for another open issue I have and the backups always start with about 8 minutes.. and the numbers jump all over the place and usually end up taking about 10-12 minutes going to my external 7200rpm drive via USB 3.0 connection.  The calculating can be influenced by the type of files being processed (large files go more quickly but small files and many nested folders go much slower - this can be observed by doing some basic copy/paste of various folders or files in Windows - just for comparison. Hard drive writes will be limited to the performance of the drives 4K performance, not the generic speeds that vendors post to make them seem faster - those only really hold true to large file writes).
