Universal Restore fails at boot withVideo mode setup error ..

Thread needs solution

Can anybody help here please. Trying to restore with universal restore an image from an old Dell to my new dell. But it fails already at the very beginning during boot from stick with Video Mode Setup error ... (see attached jpg for the complete error message)  -

Its ironic you buy for year on end always the latest version of the software to ensure you are protected and then when you need it the first time it does not work. The Unversal Restore seem not so Universal at all ..

Thanks for help, advice etc ..- Cheers Thomas

Hello!

Please refer to the following KB: https://kb.acronis.com/content/62646

I would advise you to create a WinPE bootable instead of Linux based :

Best regards.

Thank You Jose Pedro Magalhaes,

but all of that does not work. I guess Universal Restore is just not at easy as the advert suggests, I wasted already a day whereas the recovery should not be taking more then 10 minutes ..

But thank you for your help, much appreciated. Cheers Thomas

Hello! The recovery should be relatively simple following the instructions. What's the error code it gives you when you use the WinPE bootable media? It's impossible to receive the same error code.

Best regards.

Thomas, the video mode error is a known issue for Linux based rescue media when used with systems that have dual video adapters, so using WinPE based rescue media is the best recommendation.

Universal Restore is not used to actually restore a backup image - that has to be done using normal Acronis rescue media after which AUR can be used if needed.  Typically AUR may not be needed if you are restoring Windows 10 or 11 to new hardware as the handling of new components in the OS is much improved over older versions of Windows such as 7 or earlier.

Steve, Thanks for your reply.

I started to come to a similar conclusion after reading lots of articles and posts and maybe tomorrow I would have reached the "AHA" moment. I am not the quickest anymore, but thank you thank you. I will just do a restore tomorrow and hope for the best, nothing to lose only to again ..

merci!
