Universal Restore (No USB Keyboard or Mouse in Linux RE)

Thread solved

Hi,

I finally managed to create a Universal Recovery USB Boot Disk using the Linux Option..However as soon as I boot and choose either Universal Restore or True Image 2021..and either program opens; I lose my keyboard and mouse.

Any Ideas why and how to solve.

Thanks in advance

kp

P.S: I tried the PE options and I get unable to connect to local machine in those recovery enviroments and also tried the MVP tool and although it creates the image etc it fails to format the USB drive, I think because it is using windows diskpart and they appear to removed FAT32 as an option for drives and using exFAT.

K P, welcome to these public User Forums.

Keyboard & mouse issues in any rescue media is typically caused by a lack of correct device drivers and is often associated with using wireless devices.

Windows PE rescue media offers the best option to try to use such wireless devices because some drivers can be found in the Windows Recovery Environment and others can be added via the options in the tool used to create media.

The MVP media creation tool does not use exFAT, it has the same requirements as the normal Acronis media builder (including the Survival Kit process) of having a FAT32 partition.

For USB media such as memory sticks, then the size of media can be an issue.  Acronis rescue media typically only needs 2GB though this can be higher if using the new ACPHO program which wants to include graphics device drivers.  Microsoft sets a 32GB size restriction on USB stick media which means that larger devices may not work correctly or boot.

For USB external disk drives, then again the Survival Kit process creates a 2GB FAT32 partition at the start of the drive which is used to boot rescue media.

The alternative / recommendation for issues with wireless keyboard & mouse issues is to use a standard wired USB device or USB hub / dock to connect such devices.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for the kind welcome and your reply to my post, Im already using a wired usb keyboard and mouse which is why I am a little bit mythed as to why they suddenly stop working, looks like I will have to go the 32GB card route. Its a bit odd cos I dont actually have any issues with the Rescue Media Builder in ATI, It is just Universal Restore Media Builder which is giving the headache.

Best Wishes
