update available - you gonna pay for that?

Thread needs solution

Ran acronis true-image 2019 today that I upgraded to in Nov 2018 and it said there was a software update, so I installed it. You know, best practice to keep software patched and current.... Welcome to Acronis true-image 2020 - your license isn't valid for this version. Checked the website, this "update" isn't free!!! Boy do I feel stupid for falling for this. What software pushes an update that you have to pay for - nothing indicated that I was 'upgrading', it appeared as an 'update'. So instead of uninstalling and trying to reinstall the previous version, I think I'll just try another product.

Chris, welcome to these public User Forums.

I don't think that this behaviour has changed across any recent versions but is annoying if you have a perpetual license version and not a subscription license.

I can only suggest either submitting Feedback via the tool in the ATI GUI Help pages, or else try sending a message to Renata Gubaydullina | Product manager, Acronis True Image to see if she can help in any way?

I was under the impression that you would only get notifications for new Major versions (2019, 2020, etc) if you have a subscription.

I haven't had a perpetual license in a couple years though so can't remember.  Yeah, that's a bummer if you're prompted to update directly in the app and end up with a new major version that is unlicensed as a result.

Du hast eine Dauerlizenz 2019 und innerhalb dieser ist alles kostenlos. Ein Wunsch seit Jahren von mir her ist der eingeblendete Hinweis von Acronis
