User profiles on Windows and backing up

Thread solved

Hi All.

I haven't used Windows or Acronis in a few years and I'm setting up a new laptop for my kids. My question is.
To run True Image. is it better having all the profiles logged out or logged in while running the back up?
Currently running the latest Windows 10 home as of 10/17/19 and have 4 profiles set up including the admin.

Thanks.

Oscar, some comments on your questions:

  1. Acronis True Image needs to be Installed using an Administrator account in order to have all the correct authorities / privileges.
  2. Any backup tasks within ATI should also be created / configured using an Administrator account.
  3. To protect your various different user profiles, then you should be creating a Disks & Partitions backup image which will then capture all the hidden / system files, registry data etc (that would be missed by using a Files & Folders backup).
  4. Once your backup tasks have been created as above, then it should not matter that the Administrator account is not logged in provided the tasks are configured to run on a defined schedule.  The scheduled backup tasks will run with administrator authority regardless of any users being logged in or not.
ATI will use the Microsoft VSS snapshot feature to capture locked data for the backup task, so will capture a 'snapshot' of the system as it is / was when the backup was executed.

Ditto to Steve.

Also, if data is critical and you want more backup options... taking an offline backup with the rescue media (while Windows is completely turned off - booting to your rescue USB or DVD) isn't a bad idea to add to the rotation.

No matter how reliable or good a backup software is, you should still have a couple of backup options to rely on because things happen (like a power surge, fire, water damage, theft, hardware failure, virus/malware/ransomware) that takes out your system and/or main backup drive out at possibly the same time.

The minimum backup plan should at least be 3-2-1 (for any backup scenario - this isn't just an Acronis recommendation, but a standard IT recommendation for anyone who really is serious about wanting to be able to recover).

Thank you for the replies.  I ended up making 2 separate backups on 2 separate external drives.   they're scheduled daily and weekly.  the weekly one will be with the system on weekends only.

Thanks again.

Sounds like a good plan to start with!  That should give you some options to recover from if need be and provide a little redundancy, just in case.
