What is happening to ATI's direction, specifically 2020/2021? Not longer focused on backup?
I bought ATI several years ago and have maintained a subscription to make sure my machines are backed up and ready to be restored. I mean, that's in the name itself. It worked very well and I have recommended it to quite a few people over the years.
Then last year I think it started to feature completely unrelated features like cyber security which is not what the product is supposed to be about and why people bought it. This means it starts and runs additional processes and services on my machine that I don't want and cannot be completely stopped from within the app itself.
Now I just got a notification for a free upgrade to "Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office for Windows", implying that the product is now completely flipping and mostly about security and backup is now not even the focus! WTF?
I bought a backup product, not a security product. If you want to do that make it a separate product. There are still glaring issues with the backup side of things that have not been addressed, yet this security stuff that I never wanted still gets updated.
Am I going to have to move to a competitor that has backup products that are just that and also not only stop recommending it to other people but tell them to actively avoid it?
You may say "Well don't upgrade".. But I pay a subscription so that I get updates to my BACKUP product.

Thanks. Due to this change in direction which was supposed to be only for backups and the plathora of 15 or so constantly running services the absolutely don't need to be running, some of which you can't even turn off, making the software bloated I might have to jump ship. This is a huge shame because ATI was great.

Dear John,
sorry to know of your disappointment with the recent changes! We definitely continue specializing on backup and data protection, however given the growing amount of the ransomware attacks and new digital threats providing only backup is not enough. I'd recommend reading our article on the matter https://www.acronis.com/en-us/articles/backup-is-not-enough/

Nobody disagrees that cyber security is not a threat, that's never been the issue people have had. The issue is that people bought a backup product not a cyber security product. Why didn't you make this a separate product or an optional paid addon?
Right now Acronis has forced this cyber security element on people who use ATI and there's no way to fully disable it. People may have existing cyber security products or just elect not to use it for whatever reason, but they don't have a choice now and can't turn it off.
You say you specialise in backup, yet you renamed the current backup in such a way that you completely removed any notion of backup in favour of 'cyber security' that seems like this focus and specialisation has changed.
I don't know if you're aware of the huge amount of current subscribers of ATI that hate this move by Acronis and will be moving over to competitors products. There's comments about it all over the internet.
Can you comment on these specific points please?

I will not continue with Acronis. I have been using it since ATI2014, but it stops now. I can't get a eternal license ATI2021 anymore (using ATI 2019 with eternal license), but now Windows 11 is out, and therefore I'm looking for a new backup-tool. Acronis was of cource my first choise, but now it sounds more of an "Internet security program" with backup than a real good image backup. And no eternal license ??
I will not pay for the "security" part of Acronis, as I got a Internet security package from my ISP for free. I ONLY want a solid backup tool like Acronis was.

It is really a shame. I have been using Acronis for longer than I can remember.
