Is Windows XP SP3 still supported or not? 2020 is stuck calculating remaining time.

Thread needs solution

I have one old Windows XP laptop for specific software that doesnt work on newer OS. I know some day Acronis XP support will end but does 2020 still support XP or not? I did clean install to update 2020 from 2019 version and when i try to run backup it stays stuck at "calculating remaining time" so do i need to use 2019 on that machine on future?

Satelite, there is no mention of Windows XP SP3 in the list of supported operating systems in the ATI 2020 User Guide: Supported operating systems - so it is impossible to say for certain if this will work correctly or not?

I would suggest waiting a while to see if the calculating time becomes backup activity - it does seem to spend longer in this phase than with earlier versions.

I let that computer sit alone for about 1-2 hours and still stuck. I think i remove 2020 from that computer and reinstall 2019.

I don't have any Windows XP computers to be able to test this myself, so the only other options are to revert back to 2019 or else open a Support Case with Acronis.

Hello satelite,

Acronis True Image 2020 has not been tested with Windows XP and MacOS 10.10 and officially is not compatible with these operating systems.

I have had the calculating time remaining issue since 8.25.2020 while running Acronis 2018.    I upgraded to 2020 and still get hung up on that message.  Today 9.6.2020 I UPDATED to Acronis 2021 and it still hangs.  This is rather frustrating since before 8.25.2020 everything seemed to be backing up without issue.

I have gone through the forums and KB.  Run the VSS (sp) program to check for issues.  I think I need to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of the program. I hoped the upgrade $ and update would fix the issue.

I doubt that Acronis would make necessary changes so that current builds support XP; Microsoft stopped supporting it many years ago. The best option may be to run XP in a virtual machine.

You would then need to backup the Virtual machine; I understand that there are various ways in which this can be achieved.

Microsoft dropped all support for XP back in 2014 if I remember correctly, quickly followed by Vista and more recently 7.

Converting XP systems to VMware virtual machines is one option and would allow the host VM folder that stores all the files associated with the VM to be backed up.  I use this method myself with my own VMware VM's.

StarWind P2V Converter can be used to convert the XP system to a VM.
