Antivirus, tibx

Thread needs solution

Hello,

it is to sad that there is still no lightweight (install footprint) version for users who do not want the cloud-, antiransomware-, antivirus-functions.

There ist still no switch to use tib instead of tibx. Is there at least the possibility to edit the script to change from tibx to tib?

I think Acronis still does not listen to customers.

It's time again for a new timeconsuming evaluation of other products for me and my customers.

Yes, tested with ATI 2021 too!  See forum topic: How to create a Disk backup as .tib (not .tibx) which will create a new backup task using the older .tib format in the Windows ATI 202x GUI.

Have you looked at the new True Image Essential subscription or the True Image Standard perpetual versions?  Both exclude cloud and associated features and offer a 3 month trial of antivirus/malware protection.  I do not know if this trial period is an opt in/ opt out offer but I suspect it is.  You should have a look.  The link below explains more in detail.

Acronis True Image licensing

Thanks Steve Smith for the Info

Hi Enchantech,

I think all Versions have the same software base. Why could you otherwise test the antimaleware function for 3 months if they weren't "on bord". Can someone determine if there is a real low footprint version?

Could someone from Acronis bring in some light in here?

Sorry but until I see any serious discounts for an upgrade to my perpetual licenses, I won't be able to test the ATI 2021 perpetual version.  I simply do not believe it will have any lessor footprint than the most expensive Advanced / Premium subscription versions because Acronis have refused all requests to provide a more modular install process.  This to my mind means that once the 3 month trial of the new Cyber Protection features expire, nothing will change except that those features will no longer protect but the underlying background services and processes will still get loaded on every Windows boot and will not be able to be disabled!

All the above is speculation on my part but based on the ATI 2021 Beta experience.  I cannot test the outcome of the 3 month trial expiry as my available license (via the Beta & MVP programs) are subscription based, and installing a 30-day trial copy of 2021 perpetual will end 2 months prior to discovering the outcome!

You could open a PreSales question with Acronis to try to get a more definitive answer from them!

I would concur with Steve on this question.  I understand the need for a small footprint install however, I like Steve do not think it exists.

There are no perpetual licenses available anymore according to Acronis, all licenses are subscription based, from Essential to Premium: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/personal/buy-backup

You can still get a perpetual license. But it is presented so small and out of space that most people won't see that:

I will wait for a thing you could call " Acronis core". Before that i won't buy any new Version.

Hi,

I had in the past upgraded from ATI 2019 to ATI 2020 but re-installed ATI 2019 due the change

from .tib to .tibx.

The change is not only just the file type but also the way the backup files are build.

With .tib (2019) each file (full backup, incremental backup..) is its own file.

With .tibx the backup file is cumulative huge file where you can't follow the size of daily inc.

file sizes.

Has this changed in ATI 2021 ?

Does changing the .tibx to .tib format bring also AIT 2019's way of building backup files ?

Yes, you are correct. I missed that when i looked.

For a small footprint solution, take a look at CloudBerry from MSP360: https://www.msp360.com/backup.aspx. I am evaluating it now as a replacement for True Image. So far i like it despite the 90´s-ish user interface.

Thanks. This will ease my upgrade to ATI 2021.
