ATI 2021 backup extremely slow.

Thread needs solution

I have had True Image for many years but the 2021 version is the first that I have had SERIOUS problems with.

Prior to 2021 I had a backup where the full backup took 11 hours to run.

The last full backup under 2021 took 4 DAYS and 22 HOURS to run.

System setup the same, backup to an external USB drive (this is plugged in all the time to the USB port and only powered up when I do a backup.

What has changed to make 2021 so slow?  Individual disk partition backups on a separate disk are each taking days to complete. this level of performance I can not tolerate.  I want to stay with True Image, but not if it takes all week to do a backup that used to take less than half a day.

OS is Windows 10.

Tony, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry to read of your very poor backup performance when using ATI 2021.

What exactly are you backing up, is this a Disks & Partitions backup or Files & Folders, and what is the size of data involved.

Was the backup task brought forward from an earlier version of ATI and if so, which one?

The log files for your backup task may offer some more insight into what is happening.

There is a new MVP Assistant log viewer tool that has now been made available by Acronis via the Community Tools page..

If you have Disks & Partitions backups created on ATI 2020 or later using .tibx files, then look in the Backup Worker logs.

If you have Files & Folders backups using .tib files (or Disk backups from earlier versions using .tib files) then look in the Demon logs.

Other logs are shown by the MVP Assistant under the 'Active Logs' heading of the Log Viewer page of the Assistant.

The log files should be zipped to preserve their original file names if sharing in the forums and would need to be less than 3MB in size, otherwise you would need to share the zip file via a Cloud share service such as OneDrive, Dropbox etc.

Recently I have seen a number of reports of slow performance of backup to external USB disks.  In most cases this proves to be either an old outdated or sometime corrupt USB driver, or a bad cable of connection to the device.

You might try disconnecting the USB cable to the drive with the PC shutdown then, startup the PC and after Windows loads plug in the USB cable.  This should reinitialize the disk which will reload the driver and may bring back your performance.
