ATI "failed to open backup"

Thread needs solution

Hi,

About a month ago, my weekly scheduled backups of several partitions have been generating an error message after the completion of the given scheduled backup:

"failed to open backup" [backup location/file-name] "Make sure the backup location is accessible and contains all versions of the backup."

All my backup settings are unchanged, as is the file location for all backups, which have been in place for years.

I'm using Version 2021, Build 35860 and the product is indicated as up to date. My Windows 10 system is also fully up to date and runs well.

The error message, when it occurs, interrupts the string of scheduled partition backups: for example, if backups of partitions C, F, G, H are scheduled (in this sequence), and the error message is generated at the end of the F backup, the process will stop and G and H backups will not take place.

Also, when it happens, while the new backup appears to be complete and valid, the backup will not discard old versions as per its settings.

All of these have worked perfectly for a good number of years, and since the update to ATI 2021 in late 2020, but now they do not: more often than not, the process stops after one or two scheduled partition backups, and not running all subsequent scheduled backups.

I'd greatly appreciate your support on this.

Thank you,

Jordan

Jordan, the full backup log / logs that show all the information about what is happening with your backups is needed here to try to understand what is going on.

If the image you attached above is for a partition backup, then that backup task was created prior to ATI 2020 as is still using .tib files rather than the new .tibx files introduced for all new Disks & Partitions backups in ATI 2020.  So it is possible that some corruption may have crept into the backup task script that is contributing to this issue.

I would suggest setting up a new Disks & Partitions backup task in ATI 2021 using the .tibx format files and see if that will run successfully without any issues!
