ATI Subscription

Thread needs solution

I have received an eMail from Acronis offering me a discounted subscription for ATI 2021.  My question is I have always had a perpetual license for 2018 (and prior versions) and I don't normally renew products unless I need to.  However, this offer is quite good to miss so can somebody tell me whether this "subscription" is just the name change and whether it will still be useable after 1 year even if I don't renew it?

I am aware that updates will stop as it is common sense not to expect any more updates if it hasn't been paid for but what happens to the product I buy?  Would it continue to run or does it stop working and I need to remove it from the machine to stop bothering me with pop-ups to renew it?

I hope I get a reply to my eMail as I don't normally spend time on these forums.

Thank you.

Dave, welcome to these public User Forums.

If you take out a subscription license for ATI and do not renew this year on year, then you will lose all functionality for the application apart from being able to recovey backup files created while the subscription was active.

OK Thank you.  So this subscription model is a complete waste of time for people like me.  I won't waste money on this for now.

Acronis always sends me various offers and some are good and some not so good so I'll just wait for a good offer to hit my mail box for a perpetual license NOT Subscription.  "018 still works for me and there is always an alternative free version on the internet.

Kind regards.

Dave, there should be some better discounts offered during Black Friday / Cyber Monday if you still want to upgrade to the ATI 2021 Standard (perpetual) version later this month.

See KB 65511: Acronis True Image 2021 licensing - for the official statement about what happens when a subscription ends!

Standard license is unlimited in time. Annual subscription means your license is limited for 1 year. You can renew your subscription and continue using the product.

After your Acronis True Image subscription expires, all product functionality will be blocked until further subscription renewal, however, the backed up data is still accessible:

  • For 5 days after subscription expires you can continue making backups, including backups to Acronis Cloud storage (for Advanced and Premium subscriptions)
  • During 30 days after subscription expires you can restore data from Cloud Storage. Thirty days after subscription expiration the data in Acronis Cloud storage is destroyed.
  • Local backups remain available for restore.

Apparently the word Perpetual is misleading.  It means that you have a perpetual license to a single year's version of ATI, NOT that you get annual upgrades to the then-current version year after year without paying any more.

Perpetual in the context of ATI  simply means 'Buy once and use it for as long as it works and the version of Windows it is used with supports it."

Upgrades to perpetual versions are available during the period that that version is in support, i.e. normally for 1 year from the date it was released to the general public.
