ATI2021 Flash rescue media boot problem

Thread solved

My UEFI boot order:

Windows Boot Manager

USB Floppy/CD

USB Hard Drive

ATAPI CD/DVD Drive

Legacy Boot Sources : Disabled

I'm trying to create an ATI 2021 bootable USB Flash media that works

on my HP desktop/Win 10 system.

I've created several Acronis bootable rescue USB Flash media

according to various instructions that I think are bootable based on the

the fact they ended successfully.

However, when I try to boot the flash media using 'USB Floppy/CD' as first

in the boot order, UEFI always goes on to boot up Windows.

No messages, no anything.  Tried all kinds of flash drives new and used to

no avail.

I have a fairly current HP desktop/Win 10 system.

By the way....I created an Acronis 2021 DVD rescue media using Acronis Rescue Builder

(Simple) and it works ok. Can't seem to find any resolutions online that solve my problem using usb Flash media.

I must admit, some of the procedures I've followed to fix the boot problem are beyond my depth of knowledge in the “boot” world.

Any advice would be appreciated.

George, what exactly do you mean by 'USB Flash media' here?  Is this a memory card or a memory stick?  Does it plug directly into a USB port or via an adapter?  What size is it?

Do I understand correctly that a ATI 2021 rescue media DVD is working correctly?

When booting any rescue media on your UEFI system, you need to use the UEFI boot menu option for the media being used, especially when it comes to any restore or recovery actions.

KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the prompt response.

I think I can best answer answer your question of what I mean by 'USB Flash media’

by referring to an Acronis knowledge base article:

1526: Starting Acronis product from USB flash drive

In the article it states:

If your computer does not boot or you have a new computer without any operating system installed on it, you can boot your computer with Acronis bootable media. The bootable media is a USB flash drive or a CD with Acronis software on it. This way, you can recover from a backup in case your computer does not boot anymore.

When I use Acronis Rescue builder I use the “Simple” creation method and select the

USB Drive option and proceed to a successful creation.

I then proceed to set up the following EUFI boot order:

            USB Floppy/CD

Windows Boot Manager

USB Hard Drive

ATAPI CD/DVD Drive

            Legacy Boot Sources : Disabled

However, when I try to boot the flash media using 'USB Floppy/CD' as first

in the boot order, UEFI always goes on to boot up Windows.

No messages, no anything.  Tried all kinds of flash drives new and used to

no avail. Use “diskpart’ in prepping all of them.

            new PNY 32GB

            new SanDisk 16GB

            used Lexar 2GB

The above process was used to build a ATI2021 DVD rescue media and it

worked fine.

Tried this you tube link acronis true image 2020 bootable usb.

Look like it would work but got the same result at boot time.

Thanks for your time and effort.

George, thanks for the additional information.  From what I have read I think that you are using the wrong choice in the BIOS settings as the USB stick will be seen as a USB hard disk, not as a USB Floppy / CD.

Hi Steve,

As you recommended, I changed my BIOS boot order to USB hard disk

instead of USB Floppy/CD and the boot worked perfectly.

That was one of those classic “why didn’t I think of that?” moments.

Thank you VERY much for fixing my problem.

George

George, great news that all is now working as expected with the correct boot option.
