Backup failed with message "Already locked"

TrueImage 2020 was working fine until I got the error message "Already locked" during full backup. Support says that something is locking the Lenovo OEM partition and the backup fails. Support suggests to log a case to Lenovo but my laptop is about 10 years old. Any ideas?

Gilbert, see forum topic: Error 'Unknown Status' failure after 2021 Upgrade - where a similar issue has been identified as causing the problem with backup failures, but this time caused by a SONYSYS OEM partition!

Excluding the OEM partition does allow the backups to run fine and I would suggest that these OEM partitions are almost never used.

I have done clean installs of Dell laptops where I have not attempted to put back the various OEM partitions that they come from the factory with, and have never seen any issues because of them being missing!  I believe I have done the same with at least one Lenovo laptop, and have definitely done this for older IBM Thinkpad laptops which were bought by Lenovo and incorporated into their product range.

Like Steve, I have never had to use OEM partition. In my case all I have to do is log into the Dell www site using the service tag number and I can then download whatever I need.

I discovered the same problem running True Image 2021 trial. When I tried to backup the whole drive (4 partitions), it failed with message "Unknown status".

I discovered through trial and error that if I backed up each partition separately, they all worked apart from the hidden Dell "DIAGS" partition. I think this contains some pre-boot hardware diagnostic tests. This partition failed with the message "Already locked".

I can submit a backup of the whole drive but excluding this partition.

Acronis Support say this is a known issue that will be fixed in a future update, but with no date yet available.

@Steve Welham, that is interesting. Neither of the aging Dell Notebooks I have has such a partition, so I have not experienced that problem. Something for my to remember as others are likely to face the same problem.

Has anyone posting here that has gotten the "Unknown Status" error ever had the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (ASRM) utility activated on their machine?  Is yes please post the details of your use of ASRM here.

For those whom get the OP of this thread error "Already locked" this error may indicate insufficient space for VSS snapshot creation on the disk.  To check allocated space please download the Acronis VSS Doctor tool and run it.  If you find that allocated space is an issue post the details here.

Previously, after a Windows 10 Build update I was having several issues with Acronis True image. I cant find my old post. I wanted to give the solution. I found one of them in the Acronis Solutions Database. The other was common sense. My backup to my local NAS no longer states it failed due to a locked file.

Go to task manager, stop ATI, Stop ATI scheduler. Then go to Services and restart Acronis Scheduler 2 Service. Recreate your connection and start a backup. Whala! Perfect, it fixed my issue. No thank to MS for their latest OS Build and update. But Acronis did have the solution next to my error. I clicked it and it took me to a webpage that explained how to fix it. And it worked. FINALLY Acronis has helped me through their software and website. Thank you!
