Bootable Rescue Media Builder and Windows 11 / Preview ADK

Tutorial

If you want to use Acronis Bootable Rescue Media Builder to create a bootable WinPE-based media for Microsoft Windows 11 (Insider Preview) and the corresponding ADK, the following is for you:

  1. Make sure you are enrolled for Windows Insider Previews
  2. Browse to the Microsoft Windows Insider Preview SDK download webpage (sorry, forum does not allow me to paste the link)
  3. Download the Windows ADK Insider Preview Build 21382
  4. Download the Windows Preinstall Environment Build 21382
  5. Install the Windows ADK like you normally would for the Rescue Media Builder
  6. Install the Preinstall Environment
  7. Reboot

Now to create the needed WinPE-files:

  1. From Startmenu, run "Windows Kits -> Deployment and Imaging Tools Environment"
  2. cd %WinPERoot%
  3. copype amd64 C:\mywinpe
  4. exit

Now start the Bootable Rescue Media Builder

  1. Choose Advanced
  2. Choose WinPE-based media
  3. Click "Browse for WinPE files..."
  4. Select C:\mywinpe
  5. And do the rest.

Verified with Acronis Support that officially, the Insider Preview SDK is not supported - but it works nevertheless

FlohEinstein thank you for taking the time to share this tutorial with the community!

I installed Windows ADK in Win 11 yet it only will make backup media to USB in Linux?

I have Acronis 2021which has been a horror story from day 1 in Windows 11 mostly due to Acronis Active Protect which was impossible to fully turn off.

When I go from restart & try to enter Acronis restore via F11 it boots into Linux and does not come up as the restore program.
