Change in Drive letter creates "Backup Error in Path"

Thread needs solution

Hi.

I temporarily removed my backup external drive and replaced it next day. When my backup was created it was called I:, when I replaced it it became E:. Now ATI 2021 cannot perform scheduled backup due to path error.

When I click "Change destination" nothing happens. I don't see a clear way to change the drive letter and the bigger question is if I do change the drive letter will that process have to be repeated each time I unplug the externa' drive to use the USB for another device?

Many thanks for your suggestions.

Frank, the usual reason why drive letters change is because there were other drives connected which have taken the letter previously used for your backup drive.

Your options here are as follows:

  1. Unplug any USB drives that are taking up the letter I:
  2. Use Windows Disk Management to change the backup drive from F: back to I:
  3. Use Windows Disk Management to give the backup drive a letter letter, i.e. P: that won't be affected in the future by connecting other USB drives or sticks.

If you use option 3. then you would need to remove the current backup settings from the ATI backup list shown in the application by taking the Delete option, but selecting only to remove the settings, leaving the files intact.

Next, use the 'Add existing backup' option to bring back the task by selecting the latest backup file from the new drive letter location.  Note: the task will still need to be reconfigured when doing this, i.e. setting the Source and other Options.

Thanks Steve,

For clarity, if I use option 2: "Use Disk Management to change backup drive letter back to I:"  is that all I need to do? I wasn't sure about the step--"Next, use the "add existing backup......."    Does it refer to option 3 only?

Frank

Frank, if you change the drive letter back to how it was then you shouldn't need to do anything else!
