Hi Ekaterina, please can KB 48668 be updated to include Acronis True Image 2021 in the list of the versions the tool applies to and also update the screen images to show the new list of versions instead of stopping at 2019.

Wow... Any tool that requires or indicates that one has to use Regedit makes me nervous for those thousands of novices. Can you imagine the thousands of novice users out there that have no clue what "Regedit" is ? They have no clue what damage can be done with regedit and are not sure what in the heck they are doing with the regedit tool.
I would bet that over half the Acronis users out there never set foot in these forums and make that initial backup and spend months or years under the assumption that if disaster strikes they have the tool they need to restore their system only to find out later that they should have done a bit of practice and testing...smile.
My feeling is that this software should be able to be deployed from the software and uninstalled from the software or windows system without having to use any extra "cleanup" tools.

Steve F, did you run the new Cleanup tool? What did it say about using Regedit? I haven't used the tool in a while so I can't recall if there was anything about Regedit before.

I had no problems using Apps & Features (windows 10) to get rid of Acronis True Image 2021on both of my computers. I did downloaded / installed Acronis 2020 with success.

The regedit instructions have always been present in the Cleanup Tool KB document detailed steps but in all honesty, I have always ignored them myself and just used the tool 'as is' without changing anything in the registry.
Changes to the registry should only be needed if there is an actual problem being caused by them or if the normal uninstall then cleanup tool does not remove everything correctly.

BrunoC,
Here is step 5 in the CleanUp Tool Instructions.
Most of us visiting the forum frequently are comfortable with Regedit, however, I suspect there may be many users that wonder what the heck is "RegEdit" My wish is that software would have a rock solid uninstall method that does not involve using Regedit. I realize that may not be possible in some situations but still my wish.

5. You will be also asked to reboot the system to complete the uninstallation. Do not reboot the machine immediately (press "n"). Do the following first:
Go to Start -> Run -> regedit
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Click on the key
Locate UpperFilters or LowerFilters (if present)
Check for snapman*, tdrpman*, fltsrv, timounter strings:
If there are snapman*, tdrpman*, fltsrv, timounter strings, remove the strings from the UpperFilters and LowerFilters: double-click on the UpperFilters/LowerFilters and delete the strings:
(!) Do not delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} key.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}, check for snapman*, tdrpman*, fltsrv, timounter strings and remove the strings from the UpperFilters and LowerFilters if they are present. (!) Do not delete the key!
Now you may reboot the machine.

So my question is... why can't the tool do those changes?
I see a real danger here in that the instructions may be ambiguous to some. It is important to only remove the listed strings, but not the full list of strings for the key. Too easy to delete something else along with the ATI items.

The tool does handle all those changes when you select option 2 to continue with the uninstallation. The registry instructions only apply to option 1 to manually uninstall.
They may also be telling users to check the registry after doing option 2 just to be on the safe side. I have used the tool numerous times with option 2 and never had to check the registry.

I do not recall having to resort to editing the registry with recent builds of ATI - probably the last time was when using ATI 2015. From time to time I have checked the registry and there were no entries to change, so I no longer do so.

I'd been meaning to reinstall 2021 since I've been making so many tests and probably messing a few things up. So I gave the cleanup tool a run with option 2. No problems and it did enough. There were a few Acronis bits left over but nothing that would have affected a new installation.
Unfortunately I was unable to completely shut off all the Protection stuff in a way that could have been easily restored.
