Cloning a bunch of Macs - Big Sur

Thread needs solution

We've have to upgrade the o/s on our Macs to Big Sur, which is apparently supported by Acronis True Image 2021. What is the procedure for clone a Mac with an image to the rest of the Macs?

I've always been lead to believe, that the source disk has to be inactive to take the image, so you have to boot from another media, but it seems as though True Image can take an image of the disk from which it was booted. Is this the case?

Assuming you now have the image on an external disk, how do we install that on the next Mac? More booting from external media?

Thanks!

Martin,

First this is the Windows Forum so no one here is all that adept in the Mac world.

In general terms, I would avoid cloning as that process is fraught with problems for some of the very issues you mention.

The best advice I can give you is first, read the Mac version User Guide sections on Backup and Recovery of your machine.  In general this process is, you create a backup image of the source drive to and external disk.  You then attach that external disk to your target machine, boot that machine using bootable/recovery media, and then recover that the image you created to the drive in the target machine.

There is a separate Mac Forum, which deals with all versions for the Mac ... it is hidden towards the bottom of the ATI Forum listing.
