Cloning nascent drive with unconfigured OS to a m2 drive.

Thread needs solution

My current rig is showing its age so I bought a new computer with the Windows 10 OS on an 1 TB HDD. I've updated the BIOS, and installed two 1 TB M.2 drives. As I have done in the past doing a HDD --> SSD clone, I would like to clone the nascent 1 TB HDD with the unconfigured OS to one of the 1 TB M.2 SSD. Then I will do the system install from the M.2 drive. (Hardware RAID has NOT been implemented.) My first attempt using another disk cloning product was unsuccessful. I have update my copy of True Image and need to proceed. I know that I will have to boot to a USB drive to perform the cloning. Does anyone have any pointers or suggestions? Since I plan to get rid of my current computer once my new system and I am concerned that I would not be able to reinstall True Image on  my new rig.

John, welcome to these public User Forums.

What BIOS boot mode does your new computer use?

NVMe M.2 drives require the BIOS boot mode to be UEFI / GPT which is normally the default on most new PC's.

Which version of ATI do you have installed on your older PC and does this have any NVMe M.2 drives installed?

Ideally, you should create new 'Simple' Acronis Rescue Media from ATI 2021 installed in Windows on the new PC so that the rescue media picks up all necessary device drivers from the Windows 10 Recovery Environment of that new PC.

If you have ATI 2021 installed on the new PC, you also have the option to use Acronis Active Clone to perform the clone from the 1TB HDD to one of the new NVMe M.2 SSD from Windows using Microsoft VSS (as is used to make Backups from Windows).

Note: it is strongly recommended that you make a full Disk backup of the OS disk of the new PC before attempting to clone the disk.  The backup could be created by booting from your existing Acronis Rescue Media to capture the non-configured Windows OS.
