Download protection updates failed.

Thread needs solution

Given the proliferation of cybersecurity threats, I really don't mind Acronis offering its various protections. Despite a number of false positives for its ransomware detector, for example, it did indeed detect a real threat not long ago. (To be fair, Norton 360 spotted it as well.)

So I was interested in its "vulnerability assessment" on the Protection screen, but I cannot use it. It needs downloads that constantly fail, even after I turned off my VPN and all Norton 360 protections. The problem, so far as I can see, is on the Acronis side. Hardly a solid product.

Oh: and when I tried to submit a ticket, I had to type everything over again, because the system report that Acronis generated (!) is too large for their ticket screen. Seriously. And there's no way to drop the file so you can just send the ticket.

I think I've read elsewhere that other users are dismayed by this proliferation of features. I'm happy to have them, but don't tell me that I have them if they don't actually work.

[Follow-up edit] I went back to the screen and tried the download a few more times. No luck. But I saw that I have three exceptions to Protection, so I wanted to look at the list to confirm they're the three I suspect they are. And I get an error message that the list cannot be loaded.

I'm beginning to think that 2021 "Protection" is a bit of a put-on.

I doubt that the issue is related to Norton 360 - I run it and do not have the problem you mention.

It is possible that your installation of ATI 2021 has become corrupted, in which case you should try a repair installation - see here.

Michael, if you are attempting to run both the new Acronis Cyber Protection and Norton 360 then it really needs to be either one or the other, not both active.

Having said the above, if you have Acronis realtime protection turned off, you should be able to use the new Vulnerability scan feature and this should download any updates automatically in the background if the system is running.

One key point to make about the Vulnerability scan is that it makes a joke out of this feature by listing every known vulnerability for each application it discovers, i.e. on my system with an older version of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC it listed over 60 vulnerabilities by their CVE reference number which just makes reading the list very long winded!!!  There were actually only 2 applications which were considered to have vulnerabilities (neither in active use on a test VM system) but the scan reported 76 vulnerabilities in what could be considered 'scare tactics'!

The above comments are purely my own!  I do not work for Acronis.  Protection should be offered in a separate product instead of having been bundled with True Image where the focus should have been on fixing all the many issues introduced by the move to using TIBX files etc. Protection here for me should have been far better tested before being unleashed on users in the way it was after all the issues reported during beta testing of ATI 2021.
