Duplicate files with symbol ~ after backup restore

Thread needs solution

Once again, this is basically shutting down my computer until I can find and remove over 130k files that were duplicated during a restore process.  As hinted back in 2016, the recovery process encountered an error AFTER all 130k files were restored, it was a permission error.  (See attached log file)  That apparently caused the process to abort, leaving the 130k duplicate files for me to clean up.  To say this is unacceptable is a gross understatement.  After so many years in the forums it's way past time for a tool to be included in the ATI 2021 program to remedy this.

What say you, Acronis Support?  Do you continue to claim this is my problem or will you step up and give us a solution?

Michael, welcome to these public User Forums.

The first comment I can make here is simply that restoring files within Windows to the active Windows drive is the most likely cause of this situation.  This is not recommended unless a PC restart is also performed in order to continue the recovery operation (as is done for a disk / partition recovery).

The log shows clearly that there are access / permissions issues arising from encountering locked Windows OS files!

In particular, files being recovered are protected by Windows Defender active on your PC.

If you need to recover Windows OS files & programs, then boot your PC from the Acronis Rescue Media to do this - not restore them when Windows is operational!
