Failed to recover file or folder 'System.Runtime.Serialization.dll'.

Thread needs solution

Hi, I bought a new SSD which arrived today to replace a smaller SSD. I did a system back up and saved it to my storage HDD.

I have my new SSD attached by USB and twice now during Restore to new SSD I have got the error: "Failed to recover file or folder 'System.Runtime.Serialization.dll'."

This is after validating the backup as well.

Any ideas whats wrong?

Thanks

Flint

Flint, welcome to these public User Forums.

What type of backup have you created from your original smaller SSD drive?
This needs to be a Disk & Partitions backup if the new SSD is to replace an OS SSD.

The error message suggests (to me) that you are using a Files & Folders backup which would cause individual files to be listed, whereas a Disk recovery is done at a sector level.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the advice. I have now gotten it and it looks right this time. I have my original as C: but the new one is E:

Will I have to change this or if I attach the new SSD with recovery on it, will that assume the C: automaticall?

Flint, if your new SSD is connected as a second drive to your PC, then it will always get a different drive letter later in the alphabet.

Once you remove the current C: drive and replace it by the new SSD, it will assume the C: drive letter when booting into the Windows OS from that new SSD.
