Failure to download protection updates

Thread needs solution

I've attempted to download protect updates and I get this message:

"Downlaod protect updates failed"

Thinking that Active protect should be turned off, but I cannot do this as the Turn off protection button is greyed out. And if in Settings I try to disable Antiransomeware Protection or Real-time Protection, they get enabled again when the OK button is clicked.

Roger, the initial download of protection updates can be quite slow and take a while to run.

The options to turn off various protection settings can also be queued behind the protection updates, so again you may need to wait until this is complete before you can then turn off any of the individual settings or use the option to Turn off protection completely / permanently.

One note, even when Protection is 'Turned off permanently' - Acronis still runs all the same background services albeit at minimal resource usage (but annoying all the same!).

If you already have an existing security application / package that you are happy with using, then Acronis Protection should not try to force itself to be used but should defer to the installed application.  The only exception is that it will turn off Windows Defender without asking the user if they want this to happen!  You can turn off Acronis Protection and re-enable Defender if you prefer to use that security application.

Note: please ensure that you are running the latest ATI 2021 Update #2 (build #34340) that was released a couple of days back as this contains further changes for Protection (and installs a new Vulnerability check scan that runs by default daily).  The latter scan will run and can stop protection from being turned off until it has finished!

Ken, welcome to these public User Forums.

This normally should resolve itself if left alone and the option to download protection updates automatically is enabled in the Advanced Protection settings page (near the bottom).

If it doesn't resolve itself, then the options are:

First, try a Repair Install of ATI 2021 #34340 as per KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings

If still a problem, then open a Support Case directly with Acronis as they will need to investigate the issue - see How to get support?
