First time backup going extremely slow for no discernable reason (<1gb per hour)

Thread needs solution

Its my first time using acronis and im trying to backup my system to the cloud but for some reason its going concerningly slow and i have no clue why. Is it supposed to be going so slow? (<1gb/hour) or is there something wrong?? at this rate it'll take me weeks months to backup everything

If this isn't normal here are the details any help would be appreciated

- im trying to backup ~900 gb of source data from an nvme ssd and a normal ssd to my 5tb cloud plan
- 40mbps upload speeds, ethernet
- Full system backup to a usb hard drive works just fine, took around two hours, with the same data its been about 7 hours now give or take and theres only 4gb on the cloud from 900gb of source data
- I've tried a few things i saw on the forums like clean reinstall and chkdsk, didnt fix it
- The acronis program just seems generally slow and crappy, takes 2-5 minutes to pause or resume backups, doesn't show correct backup status, infinitely calculating time remaining, some things  just dont work without any explanation as to why, etc
- Obv not performance issues because im on a very capable gaming pc that i built just over a year ago

The speed of Cloud backups is impacted by several factors. Your connection speeds seem to be similar to mine, but they appear to be far in excess of the max attainable backup speed. Last time I checked my backup speeds were between 9 and 15 Mbps; I have seen peaks in the vicinity of 26Mbps. The speed is slowed by processing overheads, including waiting for responses from the Acronis server indicating it is ready to receive more data. It is possible that backup speed is reduced by load balancing by Acronis servers.

Eric, take a look at the Upload time calculator webpage which will give you an indication of the time that your 900GB upload could take under ideal conditions!

I understand that, but with the actual speeds im getting from acronis this is likely to take 1 to 2 months of 24/7 upload, or probably 3-5 months uploading during normal use, its going more in the range of 200-300 KBps based on my rough math.

surely thats not normal right?

Eric, are you uploading to the nearest Acronis Cloud data centre to where you live?

Any backup to the Acronis Cloud will take time for the initial full backup to complete, as there is processing of data to be done on your host PC to capture snapshot data, plus there is also the consideration of the type of files involved and whether ATI is able to apply any compression to these.

900 GB of data is a significant size, so a further question here is whether this could be split into several separate backup tasks, especially if you have more than a single disk included in the Source data selection.

The Acronis backup task typically runs with a lower priority so as to allow you to continue to use the PC while it is processing.

One last question, are you sure that your upload speed is actually 40 Mbps?  I ask because typically users get a much higher download rate but the upload rate is much lower, i.e. for my own broadband connection I can get up to 110 Mbps download, but only 10 - 12 Mbps upload.

See KB 4350: Acronis Backup to Cloud access ports and hostnames - for details of where all the servers are and what ports they use.

Use the above in conjunction with the Acronis Cloud Connection Verification Tool.

If you still have issues, then please open a Support Case direct with Acronis as they are the only ones with access to the server side of the Cloud support.
