How do I turn ATI Protection features OFF
Hi,
I'm using Acronis True Image 2021 build 34340 on a Windows 10 Home 2004 19041.685 PC. I have deliberately turned Active Protection off as I have other security software running. In the ATI Protection / Overview tab it confirms "Protection is stopped permanently.
Questions:
1. Why is anti_ransomware_service.exe still running? (and using high CPU for a few minutes after a system reload)
2. Why is a daily Vulnerability Scan being performed (activity logged in the ATI Protection / Activity tab)
3. Why are Acronis Active Protection and Acronis Cyber Protection services running (in Task Manager / Services tab)?
Are there further steps I need to take to turn the Acronis security feature off?
Thanks for any advice out there.
Roger

Hi Steve, and thank you very much for taking the time to help people like me.
In addressing your first paragraph, I can turn Protection ON, then turn OFF each of Anti-ransomware, Web Filtering, Real-time Protection and Vulnerability Assessment. These actions are confirmed in the Activity tab.
However when I look at the Protection screen in the Overview tab, it says “Protection is stopped permanently” and in the Protection column it says "Active Protection is turned off". The “Turn off protection“ button is greyed out so I am not given the opportunity to explicitly disable Protection again!
But on checking the Activity tab, I see that Protection has not been turned OFF therefore I’d assume it is still ON. Would you agree?
On rebooting my PC, I note that anti-ransomware.exe is active. Would you have expected that process to have been disabled by my actions thus far?
Your assistance is very much appreciated.

Roger, if you have turned off each individual element of Protection, and this has been has saved by clicking on the OK button, then the Activity page should reflect the fact and the greyed out button be irrelevant. See screen images below:
The background services will remain active unless you take the additional active to set the start up for these to Disabled before restarting Windows.
As mentioned above, the services will get restarted if launching the ATI GUI even when the start is disabled! The only way to prevent this would be to rename the actual .exe file while the service is stopped, i.e. rename anti-ransomware.exe to anti-ransomware.~exe and do the same with the cyber-protect-service.exe renamed to cyber-protect-service.~exe

Steve,
Thank you so much for taking time to explain this to me in further detail.
I'm very happy to now be able to control the security features of ATI using the method you've described. And I've also added my name / complaint via the Feedback feature as you suggested.
You're a star!

Hello ArtyW,
linked your feedback as a vote for the change request TI-213392 Allow installation without Antimalware components, thank you!

Ekaterina,
I hope this change is seriously being considered for the next release of ATI 2021. I have a feeling that many may be hesitant to go to 2022 without verifying in their existing version that they can operate as they'd like.
Just my two dollars worth (inflation).
