image creation process without external devices
Hello,
I am looking for the process to do the folowing:
+ start my computer
+ login to windows 7
+ Configure acronis to make an IMAGE file of the c: to the d: , which is on the same physical disk
+ click on a button 'start image creation'
+acronis restart the computer so the windows session is closed
+once restarted acronis takes the control WITHOUT using and external bootable device
+acronis creates the image of c: to d: in a subdicretory that i choose f, for example d:\acronis_img\date.img
+once img is done, pc restart and windows is booted
is it possible ? i am looking for 3 days to do this , and annoyed to not be able to do this basic backup process.

so you mean that acronis can create only a backup image in 'active mode' ? I do not want that my image created while process are running.... that s why i want the image to be created before windows is loaded.

No, you can create backup images offline from Windows but you need to boot into the Acronis Rescue environment in order to do so and you cannot automate this backup process.
Backups created from within Windows use the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) to capture snapshot data of all active processes, including the Windows OS itself.
See KB 63226: Acronis True Image 2020: how to create bootable media and KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

What I do not understand is why Acronis has not a feature to reboot the PC , patch the boot loader to inject a temporary instance of its offline version to create an image
this is what Ghost was doing, and was extremely usefull.
I think this is stupid to impose to use and external device when you do not need it . I mean i want to make image and later restore on cold state without having any critical problem preventing me to boot normally.

Thierry, there is a feature provided with all versions of ATI which is called Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (ASRM) and which can be accessed by pressing the F11 key when prompted on booting the PC.
ASRM uses a small Linux kernel OS to provide the offline boot environment from which either Backup or Recovery or Clone operations can be performed.
The key downside of using any feature that does not use external media to boot the PC is simply that if you lose the boot drive, i.e. due to a disk failure, then the feature cannot be used, so you would be limited to having to use rescue media to boot from to recover.

very nice. this is what i wanted, and do not understand this is not clearly explained / advertised by acronis.
if indeed the drive become unbootable with the images in it , only THEN, using a recovery usb boot device has a sense.
of course my images on same physical drives will be backed up after in an external addition drive too (so 2 copy of same image)
regards
