Is it worth upgrading to 2021

Thread solved

I am currently using TI 2018 home and it's working fine for me. Unless there is a backup disk failure or other disk related issue. Then it's a nightmare. Removing unwanted tib files is also problematic. Anyway, I was wondering what new or improved features are included in the new version especially any for maintenance for the problems mentioned above. Older versions had very granular methods to handle those and other problems. So, what does 2021 offer that I don't already have?

The *.tibx architecture introduced in ATI 2020 is more robust than the *.tib architecture. It is only used for disk and partition backups and not for files+folders or nonstop backup.

Dealing with redundant files requires a more cautious approach with *.tibx backups. Not sure if there has been any advances in the way scheduled cleanup works; the manual cleanup from within ATI seems to be working more efficiently than it did in ATI 2020. For *.tibx backups you can only do a manual cleanup from within ATI. Trying to do so from explorer will trash the backup.

I would defer any decision about upgrading as there are many issues caused by the new antivirus features. Deferring will give you the ability to take advantage of future sales promotions such as those during Black Friday and Cyber Monday (that is when I usually by upgrades).

Thanks IanL-S. It's much as I suspected. When I upgraded to 2018 it was because the version I was using just stopped working properly and the only suggestion from Acronis was to upgrade. Interestingly, that's the same reason I did the upgrade before that one. Managing individual backup files has been awful since ATI 12 if memory servers. In that version you could see all the files from the ATI interface and choose what to save and what to delete. It really came in handy when disk space was running low. Considering the massive changes in 2021 I agree with your advice and as long as my 2018 works I will keep it.
