license perpetuel & essentiel, annual upgrade
bonjour,
every year, I received from acronis,
at the end of the year the promotion for the upgrade of the new version
in perpetual mode,
this year, it actually offers a 50% reduction
but with an essential version to renew each year.
my question: why does it not offer a perpetual upgrade at 50% like every year
thank you for your answer and happy holidays

Note: the Essential subscription is the worst of all worlds here! It is the same as a Perpetual without any Cloud storage or access to the new Cyber Protection features but has to be bought / renewed year on year! Perpetual is better value even if more expensive than Essential because it will continue working after the next version is released without further cost.

+1 for what Steve said. Perpetual is the way to go. I received an email offer for an Essential license for $9, $16.50 for 3 machines. The perpetual offer is considerably more.

thank you all for your answers, but usually there was 50% on the perpetual license,
there they only make 15% on the perpetual,
last year, I paid € 19.99 and we have to pay 33, € 99
OUPs
thank you all merry christmas

Its obvious that Acronis is trying to move everyone to subscription licenses. I noticed that the Essential renewal was $79.99 in the offer I received. Very pricey.

I second IanL-S !
I am very disappointed with Acronis' new business model. If you want the promoted discounts of 50% or up to 60% on Black Friday, you will only get them when you are buying the subscription. Oh, and if you are not interested in cloud space but prefer to be in the driver seat as to when you intend to upgrade your perpetual license, Acronis "kindly" offers you 15% discount of the upgrade price if you are lucky.
I brought this topic up with Acronis' customer service asking for the promoted 50% discount to be applied to the perpetual license and escalated the matter. The response from a Manager with Acronis was underwhelming.
Although I was thanked for my long term partnership with Acronis the bottom line was "... we only have 15% discount on perpetual licenses. I am afraid we cannot apply the 50% discount on this product. If you are not happy with the is price and wish to get a better one, then you can always wait for the next promo. ..."
Who has been forgotten in all of this are the customers and users. Don't get me wrong, I like the product, it worked well for me when I needed it but I might have bought my last licenses in 2019. The impression of getting my arm twisted into buying the subscription license with wonderful discounts all over the place and then loosing the ability to use the software from one day to another for backups if I am not able to pay for the subscribed product at the anniversary date of the subscription makes me very uncomfortable.
I don't always need the latest version of a software that I buy but it needs to be and remain functional. Otherwise it will become useless!
I guess, Acronis needs to decide for itself which way it wants to go...

I agree with Tom E
I am already using True Image from version 2008 or even earlier. However, I certainly do not agree with the pricing and the more or less forced switch to the subscription version. Version 2021 will definitely be my last if nothing changes. I am strongly thinking of switching to EaseUS Todo Backup Home, which is equally good and also offers the benefit of a LIFETIME version for a small additional cost.
