Loading kernel extensions

Thread needs solution

Running latest ATI mac 2021 under Big Sur, and each time activated app asks "To get full protection, load kernel extensions first".  Apparently attempts to do so are unsuccessful, since message remains and requested action needs to be bypassed, only to appear again at next activation.  ATI support suggested fix is to follow steps in KB article 67475 - this is a series of registry edits.

I am not about to make these changes with no indication of what the effect on other apps or operations might be.  Seems to me that this problem re loading kernel extensions needs to be fixed in the ATI app, not via unproven registry edits.  Is my position appropriate?

Gregory,

Caveat: I am a Windows user with no direct experience of using ATI on any Mac.

KB 67475: Acronis True Image 2021 (Mac): repeated restart request after installation - looks to be the only method to circumvent this issue at this time on Big Sur installations.

The fact that Acronis have documented these steps in this KB document says that they have tested this approach and that it does work, but as with all such changes, it is highly recommended that you ensure that you have a full backup before embarking on these changes!

The changes themselves are not registry edits (as I understand from a Windows perspective) but are database changes to the KextPolicy sqlite3 database.

The alternative here is to wait until Acronis produce a further new build of ATI 2021 for Mac that will include these changes in the installation process.
