Long time user request to Acronis

Thread needs solution

I'm posting this to add my voice to the others expressing concern about the forced integration of security components into ATI.

I've used ATI since the early 2000's, have had good results, and have recommended it to / installed it for others. I really like this product overall.

That said, the forced integration of anti-virus into this product, while understandable from the product positioning perspective, is, not something with which I'm comfortable. Anti-malware development is a very specific area of expertise that requires extensive ongoing research and experience. Sub-par implementation can lead to material performance issues, unintended interaction with other components, and even the creation of new vulnerabilities. We have many vendors who have gotten very good at this, including some free options.

ATI has spent decades perfecting simple and reliable backup technology that cannot be easily matched by competitors.

Please Acronis - focus on your core expertise. Bring us the best, most stable, most innovative backup software. I don't even mind the ransomware protection for backups as I think that's a related area that speaks to your expertise. But please do NOT force me to install your AV solution with your backup software.

I have a subscription but am still on 2019 because of the limitations of the under-cooked TIBX format. It looks like some of those issues are now addressed in 2021, but I'm sticking with 2019 for now because of all the new bugs and complications around the introduction of an AV feature that pretty much 100% of us already had and were happy with.

Please make the AV feature optional.

Best regards,

Philip.

Philip, I fully agree with your request and would like to see the new antivirus / Protection feature either be an option on install or else be able to be completely disabled within the application.

I personally do not need / have never bought a subscription version of ATI but am forced to live with all the background new services and processes for the new protection features even in my perpetual version of ATI 2021 despite not accepting the offer to try a 3 month trial of these features.  This is a negative step for myself and many users as shown by all the posts in these forums complaining about this direction being taken.

I too was happy with ATI 2020 with just the Active Protection against Ransomware and had hoped that the 2021 perpetual version would carry on with just the same, but have been disappointed that it didn't!  I now have all Protection currently turned off in ATI 2021 because of critical issues being caused otherwise.

I agree with your request, too. I don't need/want another AV solution built into my Backup solution.

To make it easier for other users to find: how about changing the title of your post? I was searching for this kind of post and only discovered it by chance.

Best regards!

We need all users who are unhappy with these new features to make that known to Acronis via the Feedback tool and not just in these forums (which I doubt any of the important Acronis people ever bother to visit!).

I have been airing my discomfort with the AV issues for several years now.  Acronis is a good backup tool, however, the last couple of years have been of concern to me.  Number one, I do not like being forced to accommodate any AV tool that I do not want on my system.

I would prefer Acronis put all of their energy and expertise into their BACKUP/RECOVERY Software. I have 2020, and 2021 but if the truth be known I backup my 2 most important disks (Business Disk and Home Disk) with 2016... Yes, 2016.  It is fast and has PROVEN reliable in backup and restore operations on our Win10/64 systems.

So, I am here to say that I do not prefer to have any AV system being part of my chosen backup software.

I urn off all Protection ( ATI 2021) as well, however the darn protection thing just turn itself back on later.

I downloaded / installed ATI 2020 on both of my computers.

Steve, if you have not already done so (in relation to the release version), please let Acronis know you preference by making in-app feedback,

Ian

Hi,

the feedback tool is one thing. But i would expect an offical statement from Acronis if there will be a version without the unwanted features. And I don't mean a bloated full version, where i have do disable this features (of which I never can be sure if they are than really disabled). I am thinking of a real Core-Version.

Perhaps @Ekaterina can get a real (not a marketing) statment of the Acronis-People and let us know this.

Thanks

I think Acronis should ask "Why do our customers love our backup tools?" The answer most likely will be that ATI provide our customers with a high level of security for their valuable data/systems.

In my case, one of the computers that I use with ATI is very well locked down. It has very limited access and I only install software (or files) that I absolutely need to perform the tasks I need to be productive. I take the approach that even installing the most commonly used software can pose a risk to my system/data. Installing unproven software, especially AV software, that has the inherent ability to remove/quarantine files/software or significantly impact system performance, is a risk I am NOT willing to take at any cost.
