mobile_backup_status_server  process keeps starting and uses 100% CPU

Thread needs solution

mobile_backup_status_server  process keeps starting and uses 100% CPU

I believe this is Acronis process.

Environment:

  • macbookPro 2018
  • macOS BigSur
  • Acronis True Image 2021

My intended use of Acronis product.

I start it manually once a week, perform backup, close the App.  And I don't want it to perform any other tasks (active protection, etc.) in the background.

The problem.

mobile_backup_status_server keeps starting. Even though  Acronis App i closed.

I understand this behaviuor is part of the product  architecture and can't be changed by user.

Tried:

I've uninstalled Acronis (using CleanMyMac X).  mobile_backup_status_server  keeps starting

Help:

perhaps this  mobile_backup_status_server process is not Acronis after all?

But if this Acronis - how to shut it down permanently?

Lech, welcome to these public User Forums.

Caveat: I am a Windows user with no direct experience of using ATI on any Mac.

If you have fully uninstalled ATI 2021 for Mac from your PC then there should be no left over services or processes still capable of running to cause this issue.

Have you restarted the Mac since doing the uninstall?

Please see the Acronis Cleanup Tool link in my signature, then click on the link to the Mac version of the tool, and try using this to ensure that all Acronis components are removed.

I have the same issue.  MacBook Pro 2019.  I just installed Acronis 2021 a few days ago.  I noticed my fans fire up, so I opened the Activity Monitor to see 100% CPU being used by mobile_backup_status_server.  I only use Acronis for local backups -- nothing mobile or cloud related.

I used the Activity Monitor to Quit the app, and the fans went back to normal.

Hey Acronis -- This needs a Fix!

Steve, you should be able to disable the Mobile Backup server services if it works anything like it does in Windows.
