mounting not possible

Thread needs solution

I am using ti 2021 on 3 laptops. On 1 laptop mounting of the tibx file is possible. Using the software on the other 2 laptops does not allow mounting. Pressing the right mouse button on a tibx file only shows the validate option but not the mounting option. Pressing the right mouse button on an older tib file shows the validate and the mount option.

I cannot understand this strange behaviour.

Two things you could try

  1. do a repair installation of ATI 2021 - download the installation file, run as administrator, and when prompted select repair rather than install.
  2. validating the backup can in some instances correct problems such as you are seeing.

@Steve Smith will no doubt have sage advice on how to deal with this problem.

Update: You are not accidentally trying to mount a files an folders backup, if so it will not work - only disk and partition backups can be mounted,

If you are testing with the same .tibx file on all 3 laptops, then assuming that they are all using the same ATI 2021 build #32010 application, all should be able to Mount the .tibx file.

If any cannot, then doing the Repair Install using the #32010 installer should be the next step.

.tibx files are only used for Disks & Partitions backups created on ATI 2020 or 2021.

Note: If you are trying to mount a Mobile Backup .tibx file, this will not work!  These can only be accessed via the Acronis Drive method.

Steve, looks like I beat you to it this time.

The installer does not provide an option for repair install.

I made a partition back of the "not working true image notebook" and made a valid validation. Mounting is not possible on this laptop. Taking the usb disc to the "working true image notebook" the mounting works.

Hans-Georg, are you using the same installer build version as you have currently installed?  Both need to be the same build, i.e. AcronisTrueImage2021_32010.exe used and build 32010 shown in the Account page.

If your installed version is older, i.e. 30480, then updating to 32010 would be the same as doing a repair install at this point.

Hello Steve

I donwnloaded the 32010 installer and could do a repair. Both notebooks have the same 32010 build, but the problem is the same as before. Trying to mount the tibx backup on the " not working notebook" does not work. The explorer shows no option to mount the file. On the other hand the mounting of an older tib backup file is possible. I wonder why no other users have this kind of problem.

Hans-Georg, the other thought / question to ask here is: was the problem notebook upgraded from ATI 2020?

There were definite issues in 2020 with not being able to mount .tibx images, thus am thinking that perhaps the upgrade didn't correctly replace the tibmounter application?

One way of eliminating this would be to do a full uninstall and reinstall of ATI 2021 on that notebook.

Note: before uninstalling, use the option in the GUI > Settings page > Backup settings transfer to 'Save settings to file' for your backup task configuration data.  This will allow you to use the 'Import settings from file' option later after doing the clean install.

An Administrator account should be used to do the new install of ATI 2021 to ensure all the correct authorities & privileges are granted.

Hello Steve

You are right. I used the 2020 TI version on both laptops before. The only reason why I changed to the 2021 version was the option to mount the tibx file because the 2020 version could not do it. Before I try your proposal of Deinstallation and ReinRe installation I will follow the proposal of the customer service team who offered me a remote maintenance session.

Hans-Georg, I suspect that the remote session will probably suggest doing the uninstall / reinstall, so do save your configuration settings to a zip file ahead of time in case they don't do this for you!
