Moving backup files

Thread solved

I have an ATI 2021 backup with several incremental backups needing to be moved to another NAS. I'm planning on re-vamping my backup strategy and wish to start from new but preserve the backups I have already completed.

Is their a utility in ATI 2021 that will move these files offline to another NAS or is it just a simple matter of using Windows 10 Explorer to cut and paste these files to a new destination? The reason I ask is if Acronis maintains any kind of metadata info of the location of this backup set.

Any help appreciated.

You can move the files for backup tasks from within ATI. Just right click on the v to the right of the task name, then select "Move" - however there may be issues about credentials for the new NAS. You can "archive" the old backup by removing them from the list, right click again, select delete, then select remove rather than delete task and associated files.

As you intend archiving the backups, it may be easier to first remove the backup task and then move the files to the new NAS (you may need to temporarily disable Active Protection to move the files).

You can always add back the backup task by clicking on the V to the right of the Add Backup, and select add existing backup.

Hope this helps.

Chris, as per Ian's update, if moving backup files, then best to use the Move option for the task and let ATI do the move and ensure the integrity of the files and metadata is maintained.

The alternative method is the use the Delete option for the task that created the files on the current NAS, selecting to only remove the settings (leaving the files on the NAS).

Once the task settings is removed, you can use Explorer to move the files to the new NAS, after which you can use the 'Add existing backup' and select the most recent file from the new location, providing the required credentials.  You would still need to reconfigure the new added task using this method.

Steve, forgot about need to reconfigure the backup. Should have remembered that step as I moved about a dozen backup on my NAS - needed to create order out of chaos.

PS I have a dim recollection that reconfiguration is minimal. Could depdend on the type of backup (files+folder v disk+partitions, and the architecture *.tb v *.tibx.

I will use the Move option within ATI to relocate my existing backups. Thank you to all that took the time to offer assistance.
