Moving data drive to new computer and restoring relationship with existing online backup

Thread solved

Dear all,

My search for an answer wasn't successful so I'm submitting this as a new thread. Apologies if the answer is already available somewhere and if so, would one of you be so kind as to point me in the right direction ?

I have Acronis True Image (ATI) installed on a computer and backing up 1+ TB to Acronis cloud. I am seriously considering replacing that computer with new hardware. The only thing I would keep is the pair of drives containing my (source) data. These would simply be plugged back into the new PC.

My question has to do with re-establishing the link between my local, source data and my online, Acronis cloud backup from the new computer. I can think of a couple scenarios :
a. imaging the system drive - this should work transparently, right ?
b. reinstalling Windows (10) completely. But can I then tell ATI "this is the source data, there is the existing online backup, just check everything is there", or shall I have to backup the full 1+ TB again from the new PC ?

Many thanks,

Stéphane

Stéphane, welcome to these public User Forums.

If you install ATI 2021 on the new computer where you have connected the data drives, then once you have signed in to your Acronis Account in the ATI Account panel, your existing Cloud backups should be seen in the 'Other' section of the Backup panel.

Select the existing cloud backup from the list shown then click on the 'Reconfigure' button to select the new Source location for the moved data disks and set the Options for the task.

That's good news :-) Thank you Steve for this prompt reply.
