Nightly backup fails each time but then succeeds 30 seconds later on retry (TIB, not TIBX)

Thread needs solution

This is a repeat of a problem I first saw with TI 2019, which I first reported on July 12, 2019. The subject line was identical, except without the clarifying "TIB".

I have another PC problem that is preventing TIBX backups to work, which I reported here a while ago and which tech support is laboring over, so I'm still creating TIB backups each night.

In summary, I see this:

10/19/2020 08:33:04:205 PM -05:00 14420 E000B0428: Error 0xb0428: The backup location was not found on the destination drive. Make sure the correct storage device is connected to the computer.

in the log, followed 30 seconds later with a successful backup.

The thread on TI 2019 goes on for a long time, which I won't repeat here.

With TI 2019, this problem went on until May 2020 and then one night just went way. I'm hoping it does the same in TI 2020, but I'm reporting it now anyway.

Bert, is this happening with ATI 2020 or ATI 2021?  Your last paragraph above mentions 2020 but your signature and this forum both are 2021.

If the backup hits an error but recovers from that 30 seconds later to run to finish successfully, then the first thought is that perhaps the destination drive was not ready but then became ready when the retry was done.

I'm using TI 2021. Sorry for the misleading typo.

I've included tests in the pre-backup operations to make sure the drive is mounted and ready.

The normal process, abstracted, is:

power up the drive
wait 30 seconds
mountvol
wait 20 seconds

For testing, I added a "DIR" command after the "wait 20 seconds" and the drive has always been ready, with the correct content, but the backup still fails with the same error. This is the same process I went through with the same error in TI 2019, which miraculously healed itself. In fact, I use the same pre- and post- backup scripts as I did in TI 2019.
