perpetual license

Thread needs solution

I'm a little confused about True Image 2021 Essential: I see some mentions of a perpetual license, but on-line order form talks about an annual subscription. Which is it? Is this product a stand-alone or is it web-based, needing a subscription every year?

Thomas, the Essential version of ATI 2021 is a subscription based license but with limitations!

There are still a perpetual license version, ATI 2021 Standard which can be had.

See KB 65511: Acronis True Image 2021 licensing for more information.

Acronis True Image 2021 is available as a subscription and a perpetual license.

Subscriptions can be of 3 different editions:

  • Acronis True Image 2021 Essential
  • Acronis True Image 2021 Advanced
  • Acronis True Image 2021 Premium.

Acronis True Image 2021 Standard and Acronis True Image 2021 Upgrade are perpetual licenses. Upgrade licenses require a license of a previous version during the activation.

All types are available as 1, 3 and 5 machines licenses. Each license can be used for installing Acronis True Image on Windows or Mac.

There is a table showing a comparison between the different editions as you scroll further down the KB document.

I'm not getting any email deals on perpetual license upgrade for 5 PC's. Is this an indicator of what’s to come; yearly subscriptions only?

Dave, I believe that Acronis would like users to move from perpetual to subscription licenses but are unlikely to try to force this move.  Perpetual licenses are still available and they will lose a lot of home users with any move away from these.  I have only ever bought perpetual licenses myself and have no subscriptions for any software applications at all, nor do I want any either!

Keep an eye on the Black Friday / Cyber Monday sales for any discount offers!

Hmmm, I cannot locate ATI standard on the website!  any tips on where to locate it?  Thx

OK, I found it at the bottom of the subscription page....."read the fine print :)"

Yes, it is very well hidden, as is the option to upgrade from an earlier version.

So what are the advantages/disadvantages of staying on ATI 2020 Perpetual , moving to ATI 2021 Perpetual, or moving to ATI 2021 Essential. How to decide?

George, welcome to these public User Forums.

KB 65511: Acronis True Image 2021 licensing has details of the features / benefits etc of the different license versions.

The only real advantage of upgrading from your ATI 2020 Perpetual to the 2021 Perpetual version is that some of the features that were broken in 2020 are fixed in 2021 but at the cost of having significant changes to Protection that is introduced but which require an Acronis Cloud subscription to fully use!

ATI 2021 Essential is in my opinion the worst of all worlds here! It offers no advantages over the Perpetual license and has no Cloud storage but is an annual subscription that needs renewing each year!

Acronis has an internal change request: TI-213392 Allow installation without Antimalware components which I would encourage users to add their vote for by submitting Feedback using the tool provided in ATI.

Thanks, Steve. That explains to a great extent why the people I spoke with equivocated about choosing between 2020 Perpetual and the other options. It sounds like the best bet is to stay with 2020 for a while and see what changes they make in the lineup, if any.

I got lured by a Black Friday popup (UKP19 for 3 systems) to upgrade to 2021 without realising I'd be switching from 2020 perpetual to 2021 subscription. I guess when my year is up I'll revert to 2020 as I never had any problems with it, and I don't really need the antimalware bloat.

Laurie, if you bought the subscription by mistake instead of the Standard perpetual license, you could ask for a refund while within 30 days of purchase.

Laurie, that's what happened to me, too. When I called, they refunded immediately. Good service from that perspective, at least.

Apparently the word Perpetual is misleading.  It means that you have a perpetual license to a single year's version of ATI, NOT that you get annual upgrades to the then-current version year after year without paying any more.

Perpetual in the context of ATI  simply means 'Buy once and use it for as long as it works and the version of Windows it is used with supports it."

Upgrades to perpetual versions are available during the period that that version is in support, i.e. normally for 1 year from the date it was released to the general public.

Thanks. I found I can get educational pricing for Premium which is dirt cheap. End of decision process.

I just got my daily sale email from B&H Photo in NY and they have pretty good pricing on ATI 2021 standard perpetual licenses...

1 PC... $24.99

3 PC... $39.99

5 PC... $69.99
