Setting keyboard language after opening Acronis from rebootable media
Ok - I give up: how do you set the keyboard language after booting from a rebootable media.
I have a UK keyboard so things like # are all in different places. It took me a while to remember this when my password didn't work. So I need to set the keyboard language.
The instructions (KB4469) bear no resemblence to what I see.
The instructions say:
- Boot from Acronis Bootable Media;
- When booted, start the product from Acronis Bootable Media;
- Press Ctrl-Shift af
But when I start Acronis from my flash drive, it open a CMD window when then runs trueimage_starter which opens the Backup/Restore window - so it is already started - so Step 2 is meaningless.
And in the Backup/Restore window, pressing Ctrl-Shft has no effect.
It really ought be easier than this - when creating the bootable media, it should ask me what my keyboard is and then create the script so that the keyboard language is automatically set.
Not impressed

Thanks for your reply
The way around this is to use the Acronis Rescue Media Builder tool and the Simple option which will create the media using your Windows Recovery Environment files, which in turn should reflect your correct language / keyboard layout.
This is what I think I did: inside ATI, I chose Tools and chose option 'Rescue Media Builder' and then Simple and then create a Flash Drive.
But when boot from the Flash Drive, it still assumes that I have an US keyboard.
I know its not your fault but I do find this incredible. I have been using Acronis on and off for 10 years now and everytime I test or have to do a restore, this catches me out. I set a password which has a character that is in a different place on the UK and US keyboards. So when I enter the password, I cannot access my backup due to the password I enter on my UK keyboard being incorrect. This is very stressful.
And then because I have a reasonable technical knowledge, I remember.
But why, as you suggest, ATI does not build a Recovery Boot Device that reflects the keyboard setting on the machine from which it is being built is beyond me and makes me wonder why I stick with Acronis.
And I really don't want to try and build the Recovery Boot Device myself. I will just have to remember.

Hmmm - just rereading your quote of the original article, it says this:
For example, a US or UK build of the product has only English keyboard layout and language in Acronis Bootable Media. This means that if you have a US build of the product, you will not be able to switch the keyboard language and layout. If you have a UK build of the product, you will not be able to switch the keyboard language and layout.
Does this mean that there is a UK version of ATI that does work with a UK keyboard? If so, how do I get/install this? I was not given on option to specify country when I downloaded or when I installed as far as I can remember

Richard, yes there is a UK version as I am in the UK myself and haven't seen issues with the wrong keyboard layout being used... but ... there doesn't appear to be a different installer and the latest installer program properties shows: Language Neutral which suggests that the language is picked up from the system where it is installed which is what is stated in the ATI 2021 User Guide > Getting Started > User Interface language section.
User interface language
Before you start, select a preferred language for the Acronis True Image 2021 user interface. By default, the language is set in accordance with your Windows display language.
To change the user interface language:
- Start Acronis True Image 2021.
- In the Settings section, select a preferred language from the list.

You should use the MVP PEBuilder. It will offer the use of the system language if the system isn't en-US. WinPE does have an en-gb option. The keyboard will also be changed.
